Car Wash problems?

How many of you have taken your countryman through Automatic car washes? I usually don't like to but when it's filthy and I have no time I will.

Last week I was in such a situation and it ripped the windshield wiper off the drivers side. I'm wondering if this is common?

I take it this wasn't a touchless car wash?

I run mine through the auto wash every now and then but only if it's the touchless. I live in an apartment now so I don't have the easy access to handwash/wax/detail my car as I did before.

They don't do a bad job, but I much prefer using the water wand car wash over the auto wash. I haven't had anything get ripped off the car though. I used to live next to one that had the spinning log with the shammy cloth strips attached that would spin over the top and along the sides and "slap" the car clean. At the time, I had a BMW Z4 Coupe. There wasn't much it could rip off as there wasn't much exposed, but I can recall two different times I was at the MINI Dealer and there were cars there that had auto wash damage. One had a side roof pillar plate blown off and the other had the rear wiper torn off.

I say go with the water wand washes if you can.

I always use regular- (touches you- ha) car washes..and never had a problem. I always ask them to tape down my rear wiper (a previous car always had the rear wiper ripped off). I say either find another car wash that is more wiper friendly or have them tape it down. They always have tape and willing to do this.

Never. Touch or touch less. Fortunately I don't live in the north where I'd have to once in a while to get the salt out from under it.
