R56 Turbo Cooling Line? Leak
Turbo Cooling Line? Leak
I recently noticed a small leak in what I think is a coolant return line on my 08 MCS. The residue on the line is yellowish so I'm assuming its coolant but I really dont know for sure. I couldnt get a good picture of the leak but I think I identified it on the schematic. Also icluding a pic of an engine bay showing where the leak is not, its a line below the bottom x (hope this makes sense). Can anyone help 1) confirm what this could be 2) Any other problems this could be 3) how big a deal would this be to do myself (limited to ramps/jackstands) because I assume a dealer would kill me on this...Thanks
The OEM color of the coolant will be blue in color unless someone has changed the coolant to another brand. When the coolant touches other items on the engine, grease, it could produce a yellow color and that's what you are seeing.

#5 in the diagram is the Return line for the coolant and connects on the front top and goes back to the thermostat housing.

&
On the oil side of the turbo,

#6 in the above diagram is the line that runs from the front of the engine to the top rear of the turbo and will leak oil up near the top.

And
#9 Turbo Oil Return Pipe is located at the very bottom of the turbo and is the hardest one to see. It will leak oil from the top of that part sometimes.

Hope that explains it and if you can get a better picture of the part and leak , that would help.
Thanks

You are welcome.
Its a little tight in there. Of course do it when the engine / turbo has been cooled. It connects down to the aux water pump which is in a tight place.
Additional Water Pump

Make sure to replace the gasket ring x 2 and the hallow bolt. Good insurance for a good seal.
