Adjusting Lumbar support on factory leather seats. HELP..

Can anyone help shed some light on how to adjust the lumbar support on the factory leather seats on a 2008 Mini. There is no **** on the side of the seat to make the adjustment...so I'm hopping there is a way to adjust the lumbar to make the seat more comfortable.

Hey scott ,

You have the 2008 (R52) MINI Cooper S Convertible, the Sport Seat on the S models optioned might have it, it was the Cooper Seats " non sport" that did not, unless they changed things toward the end of the Gen 1 body. **** should be on the inside pointing towards the console, sometimes easy to miss. If you don't have it some people might have retrofitted it.

Factory leather seats on a 2008 car have a lumbar adjustment wheel on the inside face of the seatback. If you don't have the wheel, it suggest yours are not factory leather seats - has someone added leather covering to a standard seat?

Or, maybe dumb question, are they actually leatherette (ie, vinyl) seats?

Ok...My bad, as Angib pointed out I have leatherette (ie, vinyl) seats I have looked all over them and there is no adjusting ****. So is there a way to adjust...I need to take out some of the lumbar support. On a long drive it is pushing on my back way to much...Still need help.

Not sure if ECS assumed it was a convertible or they knew, but is your '08 a hardtop or convertible?

Is it an S or non-S?

Sorry, you're out of luck. Even retrofitting the adjustable lumbar support wouldn't help you as that only goes from the same as non-adjustable to more than that.

The only option I can see is to disassemble the seat and take an electric carving knife to shave off some foam.

Sorry Yetti96 I should have spelled that out...It's a 2008 convertible S with the leatherette seats. So if I understand Angib, my only way to adjust is to remove some of the foam inside the seat. Why is there a seat that can't be adjusted...these are beautiful seats in perfect condition.

A thought came to me while driving - too much lumbar support is not a complaint I've heard anyone raise about the non-adjustable seats. I wonder if someone has modified your seat to increase the lumbar support?

A quick test would be if the driver and passenger seats were different in that respect, but the fairly simple check would be to remove the seat back upholstery to see if a previous owner has stuffed some extra padding in the lumbar region.

I found the non adjustable sport seats to have bit too much lumbar support for me. I'm usually very picky about not having enough, so it was a surprise to me. The last MINI we had with non adjustable seats was the 05 with cloth sport seats. The standard seats are much too flat without adjustment, the sport seats are a little too aggressive.
