Coolant expansion tank options

Other than the oem pile of dog doo doo, is there a reasonable coolant overflow option? The forge is a nice piece but for the $, it's real expensive. I tried to snag a deal @ moss but they shipped me the wrong part, and have since then ran out of the one they had on clearance. Cool part was I got a free radiator cap out of the deal!

I saw a nice looking one on WayMotorWorks.com

It looked sharp, and seemed competitive / comparable with others I've seen. I must agree they seem pricey..... As much as 3 of the oem ones if I remember right -but I think would last more than 3 times as long.

I don't disagree that they would last three times as long, I just feel some manufacturers take advantage of a design fault., like the expansion tank, headers and things of that nature. The only reasonable mini problem I have encountered has been upgrading the lower control arm bushings to power flex units.

Now looking at ways, I supposed that isn't all that bad.

You could try this one. I have it and have zero issues or worries about it.

I have the Forge overflow tank (the same one as Braminator's link). Pretty happy with it, wish I bought the black one tho (but I think it wasn't listed when I bought it or I was drunk when I ordered it) :p

I have the forge tank as well (and PS tank too). I powder coated mine blue - to the guys that have them....

Mine constantly leaks/pisses out of the top (from the cap). I've always assumed that it's because there's no fill line, and I've overfilled it. Now I'm not so sure, it's barley at the baffle. Can you measure how many inches of fluid you have when cold (measure from the top surface of the circular baffle). Maybe I need to replace the cap.
Seriously, any help would be great this thing is really pissing me off.

Forge uses the OEM cap w/c doesn't really hold pressure & eventually leaks from the top. The best coolant reservoir replacements to date are the RMW & Canton w/ real 30psi rad caps.

Do they fit the Forge tank?

I'd think so since the stock one fit on the Forge tank

The canton tank is different. So I think the cap he referred to won't fit the stock or forge tank. That is why I asked if he knew it would?

Probably not, Bram. Forge design is threaded to take stock cap. Both the Canton & RMW might seem similar but are actually slightly different @ tube & mounting points. Canton has been around for sometime now. They both share the same Stant 30psi cap w/c is different from stock.

How about the capacity/volume?
Would you guys be able to check out how much should be in there? I'll get a new cap to see if that fixes it as well.

Yeah, for most of us it does. For tracksters, 16psi isn't enough. Remember Chemistry? The greater the pressure, the lower the temp & volume. Boyles/charles Laws.

Anything you find will probably just give you the capacity of the whole system, which is 6 quarts.

The reservoir itself,.. Being a cook I'd guess about 4 cups, maybe 6 tops. There are Min and Max fill marks stamped on the outside of the oem reservoir. Probably about half full when cold, and two thirds full when hot.

Never had issues with the Forge tank w/ stock cap while on the track, then again, I don't do 24h Lemans.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
It looks like I have about the right volume.

I prefer the tanks that take a real radiator pressure cap. I'm probably going to nab one of those when I am ready to upgrade my coolant reservoir.

If 1 were to swap tanks, go for the real functional & performance upgrade. The Forge version eliminates the leaky seams of the OE tank but uses the same low pressure stock cap. RMW has a coated version, too.
