R56 CarSeats - thoughts for Those of You with Kids
I have a little munchkin on the way. Baby seats fits fine in the rear passenger side NOT in the quick connect bottom. I have a seat where you can put it in without.. Just had to move the passenger side seat up a few kicks. Any front facing seat fits even better.
Fits fine.
I find the Mini LATCH mounts / tether very easy to access.
Right now my Son is 5 y/o. 50 lbs.
I have a tall (+4 ft) 8 year old girl and she can easily sit in the back, probably until she's 12 or more.
Heck, I've fit big adults in the back if the car. A long trip? No.. But short trips.. No problem.

Not a chance rear facing on that child seat - I just traded in my mini last week
One of the reasons was a car seat - another was a lack of trunk - not fitting a stroller and young child

We did a rear-facing in the back on the passenger side.
Nobody could sit up front, for sure, but my wife sat next to the kid and I drove and we made it 30 miles to the museum and back no problem.
Oh, and our Valco Zee stroller fit in the trunk, too.
Reading over the posts, it seems the answer is depends, mainly on how tall you and/or your spouse is. Both the boys should be fine in the back. It's mainly how much legroom you're going to need for the front seats.
For my family, we're just fine doing trips long or short in our MINI. Our 2 and 1/2 old usually sits behind the passenger seat in a forward facing Britax Roundabout 55.
Just did a trip from Baltimore to the White Mountains and back and had enough room for all our luggage with the other rear seat folded down. The car was full, but everyone was comfortable. Both my wife and I prefer the seats in the MINI to the ones in our Mazda 3 HB, and were more comfortable on this trip than ones we've taken in the Mazda in the past. Plus the MINI is just more fun to drive and can go further on a tank of gas.

+1
my drivers seat actually is pushed back all the way.....and my wife could still ride in the seat in-front of the rear facing-baby seat....just have to pic a more "basic" compact seat...works fine.
Now she is in a booster seat (no back)....seat in front can be pushed back more....and her legs don't reach the back of the front seat...and that is in a SMALLER GEN1!!
space was snug, but doable as the 2nd car!!

A car seat and booster seat fit fine in the back seat. My 3 year old son is about 36 lbs and my 6 year old daughters are 36 and 41 lbs. When I need all 3 of them to ride with me, the biggest one rides in the front with her booster seat and since her weight is under 50 lbs, the sensor still turns off the air bag on the front passenger and the seat belt is on properly due to the booster seat.

Best way to find out is to try one. I got in the back of mine when I was looking just to see how it fits. The back is not roomy, but better than it looks because of the angle, curvature of the seats. My 9 year old fits behind me, she has to turn her feet sideways, to get them in if the seat is in my normal postion, but after that she is fine. My 12 year old fits behind the passenger seat with it about 3/4 all the way back. The 3 of us and 3 sets of clubs fit when necessary to go to the golf course.
Biggest thing I think you have to watch our for is motion sickness. Its already gotten my daughter once...

Right now my almost 4 year old is in a britax marathon thats about to expire at which point i'm switching him to a diono radian rxt. I took the mini to a local right start store and literally tried every carseat they had that would convert to a booster for when he is bigger and the diono fit best by far. It was the only one he could sit in and not get his legs crushed by the front seat even with it all the way back. The fact that he thinks it looks like a racing seat is a bonus haha. Its kind of heavy because there are steel reinforcements in the sides but we never take the seats out so its a non issue. Plus it works from kids 5lbs rear facing to 80lbs front facing with the five point harness to 120lbs as a booster. My daughter will be switching to a diono as well once she out grows her infant seat (cheaper to get one seat and multiple bases while she is little) and we will never have to get a different seat for her (they are good for 8 years). I had never heard of them before that day but have now read tons of good reviews for them.
Very interesting thread to follow, I'm in the same boat, just got an r57 and am trying to find the best fit for a booster back there. It'll only be for occasional use, but I'm interested to see which is the best fit. I'll put the Diono Radian rxt on the top of the list and go from there.
