2006 MCSa stalled out! First time in 7 years... hmmm...
My 2006 Mini Cooper S automatic with just over 56,000 miles on it (I drive about 8k miles/year...) stalled out without warning while at a standstill in traffic yesterday evening after work. First time the car has ever stalled out in the 7 years I've owned it.
No warning prior to the stall out. The engine was idling smoothly as usual; I was in a line of traffic stuck at a light. Suddenly the engine cuts out, dashboard lights up (low oil, low battery, etc. etc.). Took me by surprise for sure. Any idea what could have happened and why?
I waited maybe 30 seconds, put the car in Park (it was in D when it stalled out), turned the ignition and the car started right up. Got home without any other issues. No EML/CEL lights are lit up... also, car has 1/2 tank of premium gas left... I've always used 92 octane since day one.
Started right up this morning, and no issues on way to work. Now I'm about to drive it a few miles to grab some lunch... worried it may stall out at any time... something I never thought I'd have to worry about with this Mini. Maybe it was a fluke. Hope so... just worried that it may stall out in the worst possible place, like in a busy intersection or on the highway. When it stalled, I was at a standstill/crawl in traffic, so there really was no potential for an accident... luckily!
Thanks for any ideas you have on what I can check out easily on my own... or does it need a trip to the dealer to get to the bottom of it...?

Any updates on this?
The same thing happened to our MCSa '06 (~65K on the car) while my wife was driving through the Lincoln tunnel - not a good place to have this happen.
The car was just into the dealer because it failed inspection last week due to an emissions OBD. The dealer replaced the fuel cap.
Fuel pump issue?
Thanks and regards,
Scott

it would be awesome if OP updated. i just had this happen this morning in severe rush hour traffic while drifting at 12mph with my foot off the gas. whenever i'd coast at 5mph, i kept hearing this click like the clicks i've heard before after my car has been shut off and i just take forever to leave my car.
