You GP folks get all the good stuff

they tuned it out of the CM JCW exhaust for the US market, but it's there for the European folks. I read a couple of places where Mini USA was concerned that American drivers would return their CM's to the dealer due to "backfiring"........I kid you not !

It enhances the driving experience so much......

Oh I believe you. My wife said as much (jokingly to me) when i pointed out how cool it is. She said that it sounds like something is broken to her. I laughed and pointed out that is the good stuff enthusiasts pay extra to hear.

Has anyone cut out the resonator for more exhaust crackle? In my SC JCW the snap and crackle from the overrun was the best sound the car made once we cut out the resonator. Im wondering if the same effect will be evident in the GP2?

Is it actually a different exhaust to make it sound different because my JCW hard top cracks pops and backfires a ton in sport mode and also in noon sport mode, just not as often.

I think you'd find cutting out the resonator will make the car sound way better. Go to someone like Right Price Exhausts at Kingston. Should cost about $70. When I cut out my resonator about two years ago, I loved the sound until I replaced the downpipe with an Akropovic. Then it was way too loud. Had to put on a 15 inch resonator.

Of course the GP exhaust system may be a little different but I'd have to guess not too much. Not sure whether you ever really listened to mine.

Rod,

I think the exhaust in the GP is different to the JCW. It certainly has a different note stock for stock. It will be interesting to see how much more vocal it gets without a resonator

Today I had my GP2 in for regular service (around 5500 miles) and this was the first time my ECU could have been re-flashed. As soon as I pulled out from the dealership I, of course, hit the sport button and switched to GP Mode. I was stunned when I heard an exhaust pop on a mid-range up-shift.

Has anyone noticed any changes to their exhaust crackle and pop post-service visit?

I think this is coincidental.

Drive it a bit more and see how it goes.

To ans your question, yes I've had a crackle between upshifts every now and then but no I've not yet done any reflash.

Interesting posts. Gen 1 S motors have pop and burble as standard equipment. Gen 2 made it an option with the 'sport' switch and now it is nostalgic novelty. Won't be long before the sporty, quirky MINI will go the way of the burble. Nissan must be looking over their shoulders.

I swear I get more pop and gurgle from regular Sport mode (without the traction control off) than I get from GP Mode, is there even a chance this could be explainable??

I could be wrong but GP mode is only for the traction control. Sport mode is what makes the crackle.

That's what I think too. Possible explanation is that yesterday I spent about 30 minutes at 80mph, so maybe my new engine is pop'n more as it's breaking in?

Im at almost 900 miles seems like it is popping a little bit more than usual. But lots of times I'm inducing it lol. I really don't even care that the radio in the car sucks, because I would rather listen to the exhaust and blow off.
