My valve stem caps decided to run away. Has anyone else experienced this?

Anything for a fellow Rochesterian....

After obtaining a new set, screw them on finger tight then cover with a rag then use a set of pliers to tighten another 1/4 turn on so. This will get them tight enough so they can't can't be unscrewed using fingers. NOTE: This means you can't unscrew then either, so be sure to keep a set of pliers in the car. I have a set that is held in place with the same strap that holds the tool kit.

Another alternative is to get a few sets of cheap plastic caps.

When I took delivery of our MINI at the end of August I replaced the stock valvestem caps with a nice heavy set that has the MINI wings logo. To date they are still in place.

By the way Lizzy have you signed up for the WNY MINI group on Yahoo? Not all that active yet, but a group drive in early November is under discussion.

Hey, Rocketboy - missed you at the Towne grand opening. We were there from 10:30 to about 3. Grrr.

The Yahoo group is different from the club that the woman at the Grand Opening is trying to set up. Last I checked that web site it still wasn't active. I emailed her with some information but never heard back. Oh well.

Anyway, click here to get to the Yahoo WNY MINI group. If the link doen't work the actual URL is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wnymini/

So far there are only flurries of activity, but there is a possibility of a group drive within the next couple of weeks. One route under consideration is from Rochester along the lake ending up at Sodus with a late lunch at El Ricon mexican restaurant. Wherever we go we'd better do it soon unless we all have snow tires.

By the way, my login there and other MINI sites is "Pamlico" - somehow I registered here under a different name.

I have the "aftermarket" MINI ones! They're only $14 bucks, look great and are much larger - screwing all the way up an covering the ENTIRE metal area of the tire stem. I think they're great and they should stay on forever.

I have the same covers as you greatgro - they do look great.

Unfortunately, it turns out that an in thing among younger kids these days is collecting valve stem caps. While they usually only find plain plastic, and occasionally metal, caps, the aftermarket MINI ones are the type that are highly desirable among this crowd.

While Lizzy's may have spontaneously fallen off, the probability is high that they were liberated, thus the advice to tighten with pliers.
