Generation 1 heater control unit

Does anyone know if you can replace burnt out bulbs in the heater control unit (none of the lighting works anymore) from my '05 Mini or does the whole unit need to be replaced?

They are led bulbs solder into the unit. Try unplugging and plunging the cables into the back. Possible there not making contact for all of them to go bad. If that does not work you can get a new one or do some surgery to your own and sourcing the leds.

Here are the two different heater / A/C unit displays. There is the Automatic that looks like the MINI Wings emblem and the standard three rotational *****.

Auto climate version

Standard Version.

There is an Auto A/C unit up to 4/2004 production . Part number 64116940861

I will check the connection first. Is it easy to remove the unit?

To remove the "down tube" pillars first there are a couple screw on each side. Lift up on the center dash trim by the speedo , tilt the down tube forward (a little to the side ) and out, (see below about possible cup holder ) then you have a couple screw to get out the A/C display unit. There should be a wire harness clip in the back.

Here is a good visual how to :: show the cup holder also.

Here are the down tubes, you have one on the left and right. You might also have a large cup holder mounted to the right hand side the share the same screws , it will have to be removed also. You can see the display by itself and and screws n the above diagram. The cup holder are very popular so you might have one there.
