R50/53 Bleeding Clutch
Bleeding Clutch
Does anyone have a how-to for bleeding the clutch without replacing it? My clutch is feeling a little spongy and I wanted to bleed it. I have a power bleeder but not of official mini tool to do it.
You can make the tool with 2 lengths of threaded rod (I used 1/4 x 6) and either a thickish piece of wood or a piece of steel.
Remove the slave from the transmission.
Compress the bellows with your fine homebrewed tool.
Attach a piece of tubing to the bleed nipple and put the other end in a pickle jar (eat the pickles first).
Attach your power bleeder.
Get back underneath and hold the slave such that the bleed nipple is higher than the supply-line connector.*
Open her up and let the juice flow.
*I also had replace the supply line so I had plenty of "slack". If you find this not to be the case you might want to pull the line loose from the mount on the top of the tranny, under the engine harness. This will add consiferably to the project's time.
