I went to BMW to buy the front transmission seal and enough oil to refill the transmission. The oil was a little over $20 per half liter for the oil. They said it takes 4 liters...so thats better than $80 bucks for the oil. I also paid over $30 for the seal...

Tax and all was $121...

I was expecting MAYBE $30 for all..

 

do you have a automatic? becaue all i know is the manual takes 1.8 liters of oil. and the seal looks about right. and as far as oil bmw might have a "special" oil most gear oils are from 8-15 dollars a liter

 

The mtf for a car with a limited slip diff ( a few 2005 got them from the factory...a few were added with clutch jobs on other years) is a bit different than regular mtf....but most folks have been using redline or royal purple, no issues.

I realized I made a typo in my original post. It is 2 liters that it uses not 4 hence the 80 dollar amount.

 

Did you get taken? No. "Taken" implies you didn't get what you paid for when in reality you agreed to the price and got the merchandise you wanted.

Could you have gotten better pricing? Maybe. Online sources are almost always cheaper but then you have to factor in cost and time for shipping to get a clear comparison.
