Future of Semi-auto top

Now that MNI has eliminated the manual top, Do you think in the model refresh in a few years [if it has not switched to a new BMW platform] will include a fully auto top similar to a cabrio?

Is it more of a hassle to flip the latch and then hold the button or flip the latch and throw it back? Being a short-little-Hobbit-like-creature, the manual top would not have been very workable for me. The only ones I have test driven were semi-auto tops so I nothing to compare it too. also does the semi-auto add any weight to the car?

I tested the manual top in 2012. It was fine. Semi-auto is a little better, but heavier.

I wouldn't expect any significant changes to the R59, ever really. They'll keep selling it, with small changes and reshuffling of options, for another 3-4 years, then either just let it die off or replace it with an F5x model.

I actually like the latch. I feel like it makes everything that much more secure. It only takes like 10 seconds to unlatch and put the top down.

All of the 2nd gen models are now effectively "lame duck" (like politicians) products in the queue waiting to be discontinued or replaced by 3rd gen.
