ecm question

Hey mini owners. I was wandering if anyone has run into this little dilemma I'm having. I purchased an ecm from eBay, and was gonna send mine to nm to get some more "mini" horses. Is it possible to just drop in the eBay ecm and have it work while mine is gone, or does it need to be modified perhaps by mini to work with my cm? I didn't want to just throw it in to see if it would work, before finding out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

I would say no it will not just plug in and work. I wouldn't chance it.

Pretty sure it has to be coded to your VIN to work. You could try popping it in, I doubt it would hurt anything.

OK. Thanks . Do you think mini could reprogram my eBay ecm to work with my cm?

The dealership should be able to do it. No idea what it will cost.
