Compatibility between years?

Just picked up an 06 MCS JCW. I still have my 03 S. Was wondering, since the 06 only has current speed and temp on the obc display, would the tach/obc from the 03 be a "bolt on"? I liked having the mpg, avg speed, etc it has. Would it need programing from the dealer? Also, I'm considering taking the autoclimate unit out of the 03 and putting it into the 06, along with the cruise control. Are these compatible? My 03's motor+cooling system is shot, so I'm considering using it for a" donner".

Good luck....
The obc in the 2006 is actually there...not a separate box like the older cars...the ecu does it...it just has to be turned on.....the blinker lever with button can be installed easily.
The cruise.....possible...but $$$$. You have the parts from the old car... But just to let you know...the cruise retrofit is something most dealers refused to do due to $$...they would just reorder the car when new....auto climate...IMO not worth the effort...but again...you apparently have parts....so move them...program it.,..not saying everything is plug and play...wiring harness changed...and it must be programmed....
My gut says just drive the car you got...and love it. The obc IMO is really the only thing worth doing unless time and $$$$ is no object.

P.S.
If you are talking about the actual guage clusters...they are VIN coded to the original car....many folks have tried to move them.....all seemed to have issues... Wrong miles on car showing up...wrong warning lites lit...etc...the chrono pack is nice...but haven't seen anybody do a successful move...

Thanks. I was talking about the tach display. Didn't know if it might be a plug in and if so, if it would need reprogramming

Older cars had a separate box....when the ecu was updated...the obc was handled by the updated computer...so it just has to be turned on.
Wmw posted on this at one point....pretty simple with the right equipment...but for most..it means asking the dealer...so that means a extra $$ for programming.

Auto climate: can be done but DEFINITELY not worth the money. The manual one uses wires/rods to open vents and such, whereas the automatic does it with little motors and such. At least, thats what was the conclusion on some other threads a while back.

Me personally? I prefer the manual HVAC controls. The automatic looks cool with its digital display though.

Swapping the Tach won't give you the OBC options. You need to have the BC1 coded and programmed to have the OBC, once that is done the tach will display all the OBC functions.

Thanks. That's what I've discovered. Since the dealer says any/all programming is $120, I'm trying to figure if there's any additional changes to the computer that may be beneficial before having it done. Could the window down feature (holding the key fob button) be added while programming as well?

Yes, window down with the key fob is an option. Just make sure you don't bump the button in your pocket when it's raining.

I've been wondering if there's an option for: put the car in reverse and passenger mirror automatically tilts down. My Dads '01 330i BMW did that, it's nice for parking.

-Anyone know if that's an option on MINI?

To OP: ps. Other options I'm sure you can have the dealer do are things like running lights and doors auto lock when you drive off and/or auto unlock when you turn off ignition.

:-)

Use Google siteserch...motoringfile.com might list it too....
There is a few pages listing possible gen1 or programming options....
Pretty limited....no mirror tilting.
