R60 [EDIT] Can I get 300BHP out of a CMS4?
[EDIT] Can I get 300BHP out of a CMS4?
I'd like to get an Automatic CMS4 up to 300hp at the crank and I have a few questions.
1. Would the driveline including tranny be able to safely handle that power? If not, then what would be the max power that it COULD handle?
2. Ideally, what would you do to make that type of power safely and reliably? Turbo, intercooler, exhaust, cams, piston's, etc...? (I already plan on doing suspension and brakes)
3. What else would you recommend?
I'm really looking for a fast, light, AWD Mini. Realistically, power delivery should be silky smooth w/o much lag and feel better than a factory setup, no CHOP JOB!
Thanks for the read,

I just adjusted the goal to 300BHP. Coming from my tuned 335 I realized if I had 300 in the CMS4, I'd be happy.
Nonetheless, allow me to challenge your imagination and think BIG! I don't want no stinkin' STi or Evo, otherwise I'd buy one. I love the Mini and I want to get it to 300 reliable horsepower.
With that said, feed your imagination and contribute to this outlandish concept. Besides, wouldn't you want to say that you were potentially part of this Ultra-CMS4 idea from the get go?

In any MINI to achieve 300whp, your talking about changing everything in the motor from pistons, transmission, and to suspension to handle the power. Good luck putting in $15-$20k like other idiots do and have a UNRELIABLE car. Plus with an N18, you'd have to change the turbo so it can handle more power and TRY and SEARCH to find the right tune, IF any tuner can make that kinda power in a N18.
Let me know when you achieve that. I'd love to see a dyno chart.
My mistake, read to quickly but wouldn't you think your still making the car unsafe for your future. Again, your taking about changing a lot and automatics on MINIs can't handle a lot of power. Any tuner will tell you that. You can squeeze out at most, IN WHEEL HP, 215-220whp and 240wtq before you start asking for trouble. Call NM, RennTech, and PAW. Even RMW will all tell you the same thing.

I think the automatic transmission can't handle that much power... Even normal tunes are lower on the automatic compared to the manual gearbox...
I think that with a manual gearbox you can reach 260-270hp safely...

DUDE if we wanted an STI or an Evo we would buy one of those.... Where there's a will there's a way!!!! Maybe a swap? M3? Hmmmm
There have been a couple of threads where guys have swapped in a 2 liter VW turbo 4 cyl for the MINI engine, and I know those engines can make well over 300 hp easily, but I think the easiest (tho certainly not the cheapest) way would be to wait till BMW/MINI does it....a front drive 300hp car will be coming from BMW very soon, I'd be willing to bet it will swap right into the Countryman since I think the BMW will be using the same platform.
They have their new 2.0 4 cyl in the 300 series already.....except it's a rear drive platform.
A lot of people would like to up the HP in their newer MINI, but it's not a simple, inexpensive task.....
To do it with the car you have now means a big intercooler, possibly a meth system, a bigger turbo, more free flowing exhuast and most importantly, someone to tune it all together - to do it reliably probably means getting into the motor internals. But just for that stuff you're probably close to $5 or $6K..........but if you do all that and the transmichigan can't handle it, seems like a lot of money for nothing. And a replacement transmission on one of these is REAL spendy.
Let us know what you figure out and what you decide to do......
