Looks cool!

So what are the benefits of a roll bar other than looks?

Stiffens the body up...less body roll. Definatly a good investment if youre gonna be Auto-Xing.

Thanks D2,

I did this because:
#1: Head preservation (I track the car)
#2: I hope that I might add some rigidity to the chassis
#3: A better way to mount the shoulder harnesses, the shorter their length the less they stretch in a crash.

That looks awesome....you are right about all of those benefits, roll bars are a great addition. What company made that one? Is that the one from the company on Ebay?

How long till you get some bucket seats in there?

The bar is made in Coloado by a fellow MCS owner and he is selling them on e-bay. The bar is bolted in, the cross brace is removeable; the seats go up with it in place. I don't know how much it weighs. That's a good question, but it probably wouldn't have influenced my decision to get it or not, it weighs just what it needs to to do its job.
Glad you like it, it gave me a bit more comfort when I was out on the track with it this weekend.

How hard was it to install? Did it require the interior to be stripped? Do you have good head clearance without a helmet (ie when driving on the street). The e-bay price did not include the removable cross bar, how much extra was it? Thanks for the info.

I traded some wheels for the bar and the installation so I can't answer some of your questions. I know they removed the rear seat. Head clearance is great (I'm 6' 190lbs). I bought some roll bar padding in case my head was close to the bar, but I'm not sure I need it.
I'll take some more pics of the install and post them.

Hmm. I might be interested in something like this. I'm not interested in racing seats at this moment, but harnesses would be awesome. The added safety of the roll cage is a great benefit, as I am turning into a track fiend.

Were you dissatisfied with the harness options that attached to existing seatbelt points? Or were you just set on getting a roll bar?

Though I don't often carry passengers in the back, it does happen from time to time. What's involved in removing the crossbar? Does ithe roll bar get in the way of moving the back seats up and down?

Can't wait to see more info and pics. Thanks for posting.

Wagonboy is planning an open house in about a month for a Wednesday night, a bunch of us are gonna go and check out that SRT4, he is installing stage 2 turbos this week and will dominate his class for sure...the only thing keeping up with him is a super charged NSX, total cost over $150K. Keep an eye on Audiworld and RMCB5 for possible track days. I still want to get out there on a Wednesday evening session, may have to be sooner than later.

I have decided that I need stickier summer tires...should have jumped on your SSR offer while it was there, hmmmmm, bummer....but then again, the allroad improvements were much needed as well.

later man

cheers

The rear seats go up and down with the cross brace in place. To remove the cross brace I'll have to remove six allen screws on each side. I had a Schroth harness before, I was required to have equal protection for the driver and passenger at the BMW school I instructed at last weekend. Since I knew I wanted a roll bar I just added the two harnesses and will sell the Schroth harness I put in on the driver's side.
More pics coming - I promise!

I might be interested in that Schroth Harness when you get ready to sell it. Drop me a line if you're willing to ship it to Central Illinois. Thanks!

Hi this is Nick and I work closely with Grant from Built-By-Bones here in Fort Collins. I stumbled across these threads after our e-bay hits went crazy this week after our new awareness/marketing strategy was launched!

I feel that there are some valid questions that need answering that are not included in our e-bay auction so I'll answer them here.
1- This is a SportBar not a rollcage. Its primary purpose is to provide anchor points for a 5-point harness for autocross and track days. In certain forms it does meet SCAA and NASA rules.
2- Our website is currently in development whereby we will have some unique MINI products from the UK.
3- The SportBar comes with a complete set of written and photographic instructions.
4 - Installation requires front seats to be removed.
5 - It bolts in.
Any other technical questions contact Grant directly on 800-863-6432

Your hits probably went crazy when you put the half naked model standing in front of Grant's car with the roll bar, oops sport bar.
Good marketing - I approve!
