Patching nail hole in run-flat?

I had the front tires of my wife's 2009 Clubman S replaced and asked the Firestone dealer to patch a nail hole in the right rear. The rears still have about 70% life in them and the mechanic said the nail was too close to the sidewall to either plug or patch. These are Goodyear Excellence 195/55R16.

I know run flats can be patched because I've had them done before with great results, but if you see the pic below does it seem that the nail head is too close to the sidewall to plug or patch? I really doubt it but I know some knowlegable people out there can chime in.

Get a new tire....but with a regular tire you would have too anyway.
Sorry but the tire is now "junk".
just like a regular tire...the hole is too close to the sidewall to be fixed.
Some folks might plug it...
But really playing with fire.

IMO yes close enough where new tire purchase in order. Dealer has a tire patch designed for RF's where it's shaped like a mushroom sort of, and is pushed through the hole from the inside, and the disc like head sealing the hole from the back.

How many miles do you get on a set of these GY's, just curious since I mostly see Conti's in these parts.

I personally would plug it with my own plug kit but most tire shops wont repair in the outer tread blocks, sorry.

ditto - not surprised they said no .... but I'd probably stick a Dynaplug in it and go. Did you try pulling it out? It MIGHT not even go all the way thru ... I've been lucky that way a few times. Sometimes it just happens to be a very short nail or screw . . .

I would have it plugged. Its not on the sidewall.

I believe we are seeing the shape of things to come....Dealers do not want the liability and would rather you spend money on a replacement.

DYNAPLUG! The kit rides in my boot. Work great on runflats no matter what some say about having to replace ANY punched runflat. Work on motorcycles too.
