Koopa RS - a few pics

I wanted to post a little info on this car and some pics because there were a few people who contacted me on it.

Off the bat a few of you won't like the RS badge on the car. I've thought back and forth about getting rid of the badging. I originally wanted to make an RS theme car to be an homage to the 997 GT3 RS. One of the flagship colors was Signal Green. I also wanted a few little red bits here and there to bounce off of the bold green. You can see small details all around. It has been modified in and out pretty thoroughly. The original plan was to put the checkered wave trail on the side of the car. I really liked the way the car looked without any decals anywhere so I've left it as is.

I've pulled off the panels so many times on this car for one reason or another that the front end is always misaligned lol.

I am waiting for a few GP2 pieces like the rear diffuser, red front brake ducts and rollbar, SSK, etc. The engine bay is going to be cleaned up and will match the rest of the car with green and red (for now Mario & Koopa will do lol). Thinking about getting the red seat belts but my gut says no. Car drives spectacular with enough handling and power, truly feels like a fast go-kart. I've got a brand new set of red Sparcos sitting in the garage but I think it may be overkill. Anyway when I feel the exterior is ready I will do a proper photoshoot.

Comments are welcome.

(Will continuously add some of the pics from future posts)

Why did you decide not to convert to 5 lug so that you could run Porsche wheels?

Thanks Dan. Yeah I've wanted to put one together for so long, this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Its a pretty striking color in person. Glad I went with it. Yeah the Z3M is an awesome car, and LSB is also one of those special colors.

There isn't a large selection of 7.5 - 8.5 Porsche wheels anyway. Truthfully at first I thought it would be a good idea to stay with stock so I can buy MINI wheels. Its still possible. Could also use the Countryman parts. If later on I decide to get some custom wheels I will seriously think about it. The Porsche calipers stick out just a tick where I need spacers so it has me thinking about a few things. But right now I'm pretty happy with what I've got. Stop trying to make me spend more money!

I'm surprised you didn't complete the JCW kit along with painted the wheel arches and other black plastic pieces.

ra2 I thought about it long and hard. You are making me doubt myself lol. I did a photoshop and I was very close to pulling the trigger. I already had 2 of the trim pieces sanded down and primered but in the end I decided against it. I want to auto-cross and I think with aggressive driving I may be better off with the black plastic. Who knows, if I get bored maybe I'll go ahead and do it. Thinking about it now, wouldn't be a bad idea to have an extra complete set but painted. I do like the OEM+ look it has now. I don't know man, you're making me go through that same tug of thoughts I had before lol.

Well, you already stripped the car to get it painted signal green, I would have thought it as cake to just get the arches primed and painted. I have my painted and the reflectors tucked inside the bumper, so the hole was filled and made euro style.

I track the MINI and I don't understand what painted vs. not painted will do. It's just so much nicer imo. Never have to think about them fading and looking like ***

Did you remove the door ellipses to paint them?

Thanks. Yeah it was pretty simple. I like the JCW Aero skirts but they are a bit too pricey and I am not completely convinced with how aggressive they are. This was easy and cheap and sort of gives a similar illusion. I was going to attempt a custom vent but there wasn't much depth and size to play with there.

Trust me I am the first guy to try and get everyone to paint their black skirting on their car. This was the first time I ever decided against it. Since here we get so much road debris and a lot of front bumper/fender rock chipping I thought I would end up painting it continuously. Yeah the black plastic does go through fading. I bought the BlackWOW that seems to be doing a pretty good job every few months.

No the ellipses were left on. I removed the door cards and then carefully pried the openings a touch with a plastic card and then masked off the area to be painted. As long as you take your time you will get it right. You would think my trim was removed to paint it if you saw it. Removing them was not worth the effort because of the way they are installed in the factory.

Yes, that's what I understand of factory. I was tempted to order carbon overlays and have those wrapped chili red as a solution.

Without a doubt one of my favourite looking Minis! Just a couple questions for you.
What kind of exhaust do you have? And where did you get your steering wheel done?
And I assume the Porsche brake swap was a nice bit of work?
I'm sure you've already considered this, but I think black headlight rings would look really good with the blacked out grill.

Lovin' the Signal Green...

FWIW...Duell R56 aero kit uses A LOT of GT3RS front bumper elements...just on a MINI. It would look great on your car, and really complete what you are going for!

I will make a donation towards this front bumper for you if you add it to your MINI. This would look incredible

I think that's a great solution if you don't want it to be a permanent modification. You could always do a custom paint scheme. Maybe a thick stripe through the middle with the outer edging in Carbon.

Thanks so much man. I got an OBX downpipe and exhaust combo (no cats) for almost nothing, I mean really basically nothing. I was a little skeptical but it sounds great, looks great, and seems to give it a little extra umph. I know its a cheap exhaust but the craftsmanship was much better than I expected. The steering wheel was redone by Don at Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. Had a few wheels done by him. So many options and always a great job at a very nice price and fast turnaround. The Porsche brakes took a few days to adapt. It uses an handmade solid aluminum bracket. Took some time but very much worth it since I had an extra set of 996 reds sitting around. I've been looking at getting the entire blackout kit for the chrome but I do kind of like the OEM+ look. We'll see but I have an extra set of all the chrome stuff sitting around that I can have painted black. All the chrome on the car is brand new since it had the water spotting all over it.

I had no idea this bumper existed... WOW that really would complete the look. Geez... that really would match with all the RS elements like you said. I'm going to look into it right now. Damn... there goes my wallet . Thanks Thumper

Tata, we made them at the shop. Thanks a lot, you know I'm a huge fan of your Clubbie.

I kept leaning on the fender without noticing and threw off the lines. We just painted some standard chicken wire flat black and had them pasted from the inside. When I take the car out for spring I'll have some great pictures for you guys. I drew the exact shape and with my dads help he used a MIG and a coping saw.

Had the Koopa Troopa at the shop before. Clubbie got the double reverse taillight treatment , on the fence about the chrome rings... they look really odd. BTW the green on the Clubbie is all from the Rally Edition (neon).

Diggin' the Signal Green and Red combo. Looking real nice. And I see that you're running on Hankooks. How are they and which one is it?
