Suspension Too bouncey
Too bouncey
Got my countryman all4 lowered with springs and now I can't stand the bounceyness... Too bouncey... I drive 150 miles a day back and forth to work and tired of the bouncing... What's the BEST fix???? Thanks
i always tell people that, but the price difference is really hard to justify to many people. but the ride quality is worth the price, as you've discovered first hand. i've put springs on a few cars and it's always either too soft or way too hard, so now i'll only put co's on a car, that way i can adjust to what i like for dd, but also then can adjust for track purposes. well worth the money imo.
for now if you don't want to spend the money, you can try a stiffer shock, but it probably isn't going to take care of the issue completely. what spring rate did you get?

to be honest i'm not sure what's available for the countryman, so you'll have to do some research on that one. tien's, if available, will always be an excellent, albeit expensive, choice. i have tried various co's, and they have always performed well and did what i needed them to. had a set of megan's on one of our neons, and they rode rather well and were a great option, especially considering the price was much less than the tiens. bc racing is another option that has always been good. i've heard good things about the kw variant's but have not had the opportunity to try them myself.
hopefully someone more versed on the offerings for the countryman can chime in and help you out

for what brand? some are more expensive than others. also shop around, you can often times get great deals on parts if you are patient and search.
There are not many choices you have for the CM, KW V3's will be the most expensive option and I've read that a lot of others on this forum have used the Megan CO's and like them. I think you can find the Megan's for around $800-1000, but I'm not sure as I didn't go with the Megan's.

I've driven, or been a passenger, in R60s with:
NM lowering springs
KW coilovers
Megan coilovers
I'd go with the Megans, not only do they ride drastically better than the bouncy NM springs, but also way better than stock. I would not even consider spending money on aftermarket shocks, paired with the NM springs, as you'll still have the coil bind problem that the ill engineered NM rear springs have. Instead spend the money on the Megans and be completely satisfied. Our car is still on NM springs, but one of these days I'll most likely switch over to the Megans.
Also, don't be confused about listings that say front wheel drive, or all wheel drive... any of the coilover kits fit all R60s.

Thanks Greg! Great info! I was worried about the coilovers for non AWD .... They are much better priced than the KW... Which I'm sure KW makes a great product but 2,399 a bit more than I want to spend!
So today I pulled the trigger on the Megan Coil overs, NM wheels, adjustable LCAs, and 225/40/19 tires. Thank you to MotoGreg and a few others on this board, I was able to gather helpful information! Due to Bimmerfest this weekend, the shop is booked and everything is getting installed next Tuesday. I was also considering the NM springs but opted for the coil overs instead. I'll send you my initial reaction when its all set up.
A blown rear shock is was pushed me over the edge and convinced me to just replace all of them with a set of Bilstein HD shocks all around. Paired with the NM Springs and sway bar, the ride is significantly improved. This is how the car should have came from the factory!
I just got everything installed today and so far so good! Body roll is reduced and not bouncy at all. I've only driven the car for a few miles so I don't have too much feedback at the moment but it seems to be living up to my expectations. One happy Mini owner!
great!! glad you found a set up that you like. remember that the springs will wear in a little still, so give it some time to see it's final stance and stiffness. you can always adjust if you're not happy, which is why co's really are the best option.
megan racing. 900 bucks, no bouncing, it'll ride perfectly.
They are the best coils for the money. Good value!
I have a set, I used to have the NM springs, drove me nuts. Noone would ride in my car, now im very happy with the megan racing coilover. No bounciness, no harshness.

+1 I also have the Megan coilovers and I couldn't be happier!
I am nearly there with the NM springs on my '11 clubman. Too bouncy, esp with someone in the back seat, or band gear... Plus it's just not quite as low as I would like it...
With a good coilover setup, will I have any issues loading the clubman with some weight? I'd have a full drumset + hardware and a few other things. I guess it's probably no more than a heavy passenger or two...

I'm not sure if they make them specifically for the ALL4. I think the fitament is the same with the S and the ALL4 but I would double check with Megan to confirm. I think you can purchase it from them directly. I'm located in California so I had Supreme Power in Placentia purchase it for me and do the installation.
