You want to look for Euro spec synthetic oil. Mobil One and most of the other brands are 0-40 as well. Euro formula will be printed on the bottle.

I just buy the oil from the dealer. It's the same price as looking around for Mobil ! 0-40 euro formula and it give me an excuse to go hang out at the dealer.

I usually find it at WallyWorld and their price is the best around town unless someone is having a sale . . .

I just noticed that my local Walmart started carrying Mobil 1 0w-40 in 5 qt. jugs for around $26. I'd just buy it there. The last MINI branded oil I got from my dealer (NW MINI in Tacoma, Wa. was $12.95 qt.

IF your mini is still under warranty, use an oil that meets bmw spec LL-01 as called out in the OM

mobil 1 0W40 european spec is LL-01

IF not under warranty, there are many oil options

personally, i will be staying with mobil 1 0W40 with 4,000 mile change intervals ... it has worked for my 1997 GMC sonoma p/u for 290,000+ miles

the sonoma was delivered with mobil 1 and has had no other oil but mobil 1 since new ... 0W40 in the winter and 15W50 in the summer

This isn't a hard decision. Anything that meets or exceeds MINIs recommendation can be used. I have been using Amsoil for many years now and have not had a problem, in fact, I highly recommend it.

Holy crap!!! I pay around $6 a quart, maybe once I paid $7.25 for a quart when I got my first MINI, now I can try to talk my way into a small discount.

What the book recommends, there is no need to change it as you are in the temperature operating range.

I pay $40 after taxes for 5 quarts of oil and filter from my dealership. It's about $9 /ct if I go to an autozone and pick up Mobile 1... it's way cheaper for me anyways to get the MINI branded oil from the dealer. I believe Castrol makes that oil if it's the same as my BMW was?

Getting the oil and filter and doing the job is not a problem olive doing work on the mini by my self. Am trying to get your guys opinion on what type of oil and brand you guys use on your mini and am asking this question because I live in Miami it gets really hot I know people use a heavier oils and stuff

What the man above said (as well as me in an earlier post). I prefer Amsoil but as with any oil, many will argue their brand. Castrol, Mobil 1, Royal Purple etc... are all good brands.

I went to my dealer to buy oil to do my next oil change and asked them how much to buy the oil. Parts guy said super expensive and then he packed the bottles in a nice reusable mini bag and said no charge! I couldn't believe it, definitely much better experience then when I had my Chevy
