I somehow missed this classic 60's robbery flick back in the day!

Thought I'd seen them all BUT NOOOO . Ordered it from netflix, watched the first half... the current rendition was changed a bit, but it's close to the original (with Benny Hill playing a great sex-fiend-computer geek).

And yes - classic Mini's in red, white and blue make the get away in Italy! Only this time it's in Turin... check it out...

 

The MINI scene's in the new moive are awesome ,but the 60,s version is a better movie,
with ACTING and everything.

 

We got the box set of the Italian Job New and Classic on DVD from Amazon. Wooo!

You mean there's no acting in IJ2? I thought Marky Mark and Charlize Theron were Oscar material! Oh and Handsome Rob, he should get the best supporting actor award. NOT!

While I really like the original 1960's IJ flick, I much prefer the 2003 remake of the movie. I taught the ending of the original IJ was kinda dumb and the movie is slow in certain parts.

I have both in DVD. I must admit the theme song of the original is very catchy and very "Swing 60's London).


IJ2 was a great piece and I am afraid it was very underrated outside the MINI fan community.


Could we see an IJ3 in the future?

It would have sucked with Redford. Caine was perfect.

BTW, the cliffhanger ending (literally) was so they could do an Italian Job 2, which never happened. There was some stuff about it on the DVD commentary.

Ficticiuos. Mr. Bridger (played by the Britian's National Treasure: Noel Coward) was like a Godfather of the society of criminals in the country. This explains his elevated position within the prison and why all the prisoners were his "subjects". Out of respect and courtesy, all major "jobs" were discussed and approved by him. He also had far-reaching international connections in the world of criminals.

I believe it was actually Michael Caine who pitched the idea of playing Mr. Bridger to Mr. Coward during a trip to see him in Switzerland; he immediately accepted. The special features on the DVD report that Sir Noel was pretty ill during the filming of the Italian Job and needed quite a bit of help with his lines. His real-life partner assisted him in this endeavor and played the role of Mr. Bridger's gentleman's gentleman.

Well, being a big Charlize Theron fan, I have to disagree with someone before me and say that with the role she got, she acted great. I think she's a great actress.

I think Mark Wahlberg isn't bad either!

But Seth Green - excellent - I think one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.

Donald Sutherland - always a genious.

So I'm just trying to say - I think the acting was great! And ED NORTON???? Who I think is one of the better actors of our time!

I haven't seen the original - perhaps I should. But I LOVE the remake. That is exactly where I fell in love with the MINI. My fiance looked at me and saw the gleam in my eye as we were watching the movie, and he said, "I know that look. You want one, don't you?"

 

The original IJ is fantastic! I'm sure that without the jump-shot mania, quick edits, wiggle-cam, etc., more prevalent in today's films, many younger viewers might find it "slow," but to a "mature" (yeah, right!) gal like me, they just couldn't shoot a movie the same way today, neither technically (too "old school&quot nor financially. All the shots winding through the narrow village streets, the amazing collection of vehicles, the spectacular settings...might be impossible to duplicate. Michael Caine was perfect....the thought of Robert Redford in the role is hilarious! Loved Mr. Coward's Mr. Bridger portrayal....pure malevolence....very cool!
