soooo i just got my mini like 6 days ago and i love my mini...i want to know what is a good tire size and rim size for this lil sucka??? any suggestions...i was thinking 17's but what would be a good tire size?? 225/35, 215/35's, 205's???

 

Standard 17" size is 205/45/17 which is a very good size.
You could also consider 215/45/17, which is a little taller and wider
than stock but should be fine if you don't lower the car a lot and
weigh it down.
There are plenty of great summer and all season tires in these sizes.

 

im running 16's right now so i wanted the 17's to make the mini look big lol but also not obnoxious...

 

I run 205-50-16 really like the look

 

June! Good to see you again posting away. When I bought Winnie I knew I wanted a 18" wheel set up. But I wanted to ensure that my overall tire diameter was the same as stock to prevent speedo errors. So I went with a 215/35-18. Most think that is a little too low profile of a tire for street or a decent ride but it's exactly what I wanted.

I have also heard of people running as large as a 225mm wide tire. Tire Rack has a cool tire spec section that you can learn the overall diameter of a stock MINI set up and lets you see what the diameter of various tire sizes you are considering.

Now I just need some lowering springs!!

No way on a 35 unless you intend on lowering that car. It's a rough *** ride.

 

 

I am going to go against the grain here. I think that the perfect size for my '12 S is 195/55-16's in non-runflats on 7" wide rims.

 

I'll go with what I run, 215-17 Pilot Sports in summer and 195-16 Pilot Alpin's in winter. The problem with 16's is that you can't usually fit big brakes in them... (Here I am wishing for the JCW big brakes.)

 

I just switched to 215/45-17's and it will fix most of the speedometer error, ride smoother and much quieter that the run flats that came with the car. On the downside, acceleration is not quite as urgent and I liked the looks of the original 205/45-17 better.

 

I put on some 225/50 R16 Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires. They look great but the back tires rub. Not recommended!

 

I've been using 205/50/16 for the last 10 years on my R50 with 16x7 rims,
and have been very happy with that size for summer tires.

Having said that, the selection for max performance tires in 205/50/16 is a little sparse
right now. Originally, I had Bridgestone Pole Position S-03 tires which were great, if a
little heavy and stiff in the sidewalls. Then I got Dunlop SportMaxx SP tires which were
a step down in performance but ok, and now I have Continental Extremecontact DW tires
which are a compromise with a little less steering response and dry performance than some
but still pretty darned good and fantastic wet performance. Still very "happy with what I
have to be happy with" (nod to King Crimson there).

 

trying to do what i can before i start posting pics on the forum which i have not done yet....i was thinking about running 215/40/17 on the mini maybe even 225....i also have been looking at tire rack but i dont think they show the 17's being ran on 225's though...well as far as recommended anyway..im also planning on doing some H&R springs with sway bars...i need minis *** tight lol

 

if you would have went with maybe 40's for the profile you would've been good but i guess u wanted the stocky tire look...

well im going to keep my stock 16's for the winter...and step up to some 17's....i got the perfect wheel for the car...

 

I would have preferred a 40 or 45 profile if Hankook made them for 16" wheels.

I just wanted to let you know that the 225/50r16 tires rub the rear wheel arches on my un-lowered R53. Fair warning if you're leaning toward that width.

 

There's a few tires available in 215/45/16 (23.5" diam) (including Kumho Exta XS)
and 225/45/16 (23.9" diam) (including the new Direzza Zii), but 195/55/16 and
205/50/16 are a sure fit with many options, 215/45/16, 215/50/16 and 205/55/16
should be ok in most cases, not so sure about 225/45/16, especially if lowered.
There's nothing in 225/40/16, and 215/40/16 is just too short.
