What does the key fob tell the dealer?

When you bring your MINI in for service what does the key fob tell the dealer when they plug it in to there scanner?
Can it tell them the speed the car has traveled at etc..?

I don't know about the key fob, but the vehicle computer stores a lot of info for manufacturer "crash performance". However, that info can be accessed by police and used for or against you in court.

AFAIK, it stores the VIN, mileage, countdown to oil/inspection/brake services, and the last time the key was accessed or updated.
Plus, internally, it stores info for the immobilizer coded to your specific MINI so you can start your car and only your car with it.

Can it tell them how fast your MINI has gone?

There is a lot of information on the computer, but only a small amount of it is transferred to the key fob. It would make sense as cristo suggested that it would include things like mileage and maintenance intervals that a service manager can check without having to plug into the car. The car computer does record things like maximum speed and revs, which apparently has been used to void warranties.

Its important to use all keys to update car information on the fob......or not if you drive fast. You could store information on one fob only when you drove fast and then take other key to the dealer?

Yes it can tell them how fast you have been. Well so the story goes of my friend that went in with his R53 and the SA laughing asking "were you in a hurry to get somewhere" because of his very fast driving.

I doubt it tells speed. If you drive with DSC off though it will give them an alert on their screen or any other error you are getting in addition with the CBS stuff.

My counter question. Why? They aren't the police.

Well what if someone were to get a loaner car from a MINI dealer and they then drive the ***** off the loaner car and push it in a race or to see how fast the MINI can go? Can they see it the actual speed. I know somebody that just did this and is scared to return the MINI to the dealer because of this.

No biggie. I have had loaners over 100 before (where legal of course ) My dealer just asks that nobody else drive the car, no more than 100 miles/day and no pets in the car. Return it with the same amount of fuel you left with. Drive it as it were your own.

Loaner does not mean drive it like it is yours, it means drive it like you stole it.

Yes they can see the actual speed, but they might not notice if they weren't looking for it. After loaning it to the next person, they won't know who actually did it. I think the worst that can happen is that the person will be flagged and will no longer given a loaner.

If you have wheels without pressure sensors it shows up as a fault on the fob.

Despite whatever you've been told, the keyfob does not tell the service guy either your trouser inside leg length, nor you previous voting history.

Way to crank up the social responsibility. Abusing stuff that doesn't belong to you is pure douchebaggery.

"mileage, fault codes, any service due and how many times you have had sex in the car"

Anyone ever get them to give you a copy of the printout? Mine had a couple of pages, and I asked for copies. He said, "Sure, no problem." After I left, I realized that what he gave me was NOT what he was holding in his hand.
