Thule Aeroblade Roof Rack

Is anyone running the Thule AeroBlade roof rack on their CM? I am (im)patiently waiting for mine to arrive and am looking at ordering some items so I will have them when it arrives. Maybe it will even split the time up as I'll be waiting on other stuff. Worth a try.

One item is the roof rack. I like the idea of the AeroBlade system. See a link on it here (http://www.rackoutfitters.com/mini-c...of-rack-11-13/).

My question is if anyone has this attached do they like it? Is it worth the expense vs. the standard rack? (Noise/use/etc...) I think it looks better. Also, does the rack interfer (standard or this one) with the opening/closing of the sunroof?

After this I'll be ordering the JCW black front, rear and side stripes as I just called today to use my mini card points, apparently you have to pre-order a check made out to a dealer to pay for the parts when you pick them up. Seems a bit inconvenient, but I already have over $450 in mini moolah to spend! Am amazed at how much they wanted to apply them, figure I'll just do that myself, does not sound that complex.

Thanks,

IMO the factory rack looks cleaner. The thule extends past the tower. Plus it's $200 more.

Agreed. I have the factory rack on my Countryman. Looks fantastic, and it took all of 5 minutes to install.

I have the Thule Aeroblades. Very quiet, solid as hell, perfect fit to the roofline. Can't compare to the MINI rack since I've never really looked at them. The Thule bars extend beyond the mounting towers maybe 4 or 5 inches (going from memory) but it's not at all objectionable -- in fact I think they look awesome.

Two road trips planned for this summer with a new Sonic cargo box. Won't have any real-life experience with the combo until then.

I have the Thule Aeroblades and absolutely love em. Super quiet and the sunroof opens (both tilt and slide) without any issue. Only word of advice if you get a cargo box is that you'll want to invest in a stubby antenna.

Here are a couple of photos of mine with & without the cargo box. I've also included a link that also includes additional photos...I found the string of posts helpful when deciding what setup to go with.

Good luck!

I have the thule aero bars on my countryman. Use them to cart around my whitewater kayaks every weekend on 3+ hour trips to rivers. Quiet, solid, enough space to fit two ww kayaks side by side. Plus paddles. Never even looked twice at the puny oem rack.

Ok, I decided to go with the Aero 47 setup, a little more expensive but I think it will work better for me. I like the idea of extra bar on the sides as I will be wanting to put my Thule Ascent 604 up there and should still have room for a bike holder on each side. That way, when we go camping we could put the lighter camping gear up top with the bikes and the heavy stuff in the hatch.

Thanks for all the info guys.

After I get my CM and my rack, should be another three weeks if all goes right for the CM, then I'll mount everything up and post a couple of pictures.

And, I'll definately be ordering a stubby antenna due to the cargo box.

I am looking to get the Aero too. According to Thule website is the same Aero bars will fit on my wife's Volvo XC 60 so we can load either car depending on which car we take. This helps justify the cost (or at least that is what I tell my wife)

Nice rack!

That should be the exact same setup I will have. That's the standard stubby antenna, right? I am getting that as well. Looks like it may be about even with the top of the rails? If so, my Thule Ascent 1600 should fit just fine above it.

Still (im)patiently waiting for my car to get here. Expecting a call that it is at the dealer tomorrow. But, probably won't get to pickup until Saturday. Having them tint it prior to picking it up. Then have work stuff Thu/Fri I am not able to get out of. Kids soccer may derail Sat, but we'll see. Can't wait!

I noticed most of the posts here are about the Thule AeroBlade base, which has the load bars extend passed the mounting feet. But what about the Thule AeroBlade Edge... It appears similar to the OEM rack in that the bars don't extend passed the mounting feet... But it looks like it has a lower profile.

Anyone here have any pics of your CM with the Thule AeroBlade Edge installed?

Aero Blade help

I've installed the aero blade on my Mini CM and the front rail is whistling when I drive. I can't seem to figure it out.

Can someone give me some ideas of what to look at?

I do not hear anything from mine. Even have one centered right across the front sunroof. Maybe the top rubber is cut too short or the bottom covers are not pulled up against the support posts, either interior or exterior to the posts? Or, possibly the angle is doing it? Maybe move them forward or backwards a bit?

So far very happy with the bars still. Ordered some bike carriers to mount to them, got four of the SportRack SR4611's. They are pretty much the same as the Thule Big Mouth racks. Ordered from online from ProlineRacks.com, they were great even after shipping me two of the wrong units which they quickly corrected after a phone call. They were $75 each, so for the price of the Thule I got two. The 47" Aero fits four across. Will post when I get a chance to try them out, so far only test fit one and loaded one bike.
