I just discovered a very small cut on my driver's side side bolster. It looks like it's just through the top layer of the leather, now I'm just afraid it will get bigger. This really irks me because I'm really careful with my leather and I don't even keep things in my back pockets or have any metal on me which could have done this; plus the car only has 1,900 miles on it. I don't mind the sagging of the leather but I think it's too soft. Does anyone have experience with this, is this thing easy to repair, and will it get bigger?

No, you should have gotten the leatherette. Just the other day someone looked in my car and said, "do they all come with leather?". From this point on I'm going to just say "yes" and let the leatherette be my little secret.

About trying to fix it....I'd take it to the dealer and when they tell you nothing can be done take it to an upolstery shop. I've tried messing with it myself and I always made it look worse.

Good luck.

I wish they had beige leatherette...I would have ordered that in a second and saved $1,300!

Yeah, even though leather has it's flaws I still love it. I talked to a leather repair guy and he said it should not get bigger since it is really just a "scratch" through the top layer, not completely through the leather. It's shouldn't cost me anymore than $20 dollars to repair and that's mainly for cosmetic reasons. I think it happened when the guy who pulled my car out of the exhaust shop got out. Oh well, things happen and the car's still great to drive

If that happened to me I'd just have to tell myself it's the perfect time to put in that Sparco I've always wanted!

Good luck,

I also have leatherette seats in both of my MINIs. Best upholstery material ever made, period!

Cloth? YUCK! I got tired of cloth seats...they absorb body sweat and smells...disgusting, never again.

Yep, I am with resmini, I at first started telling everyone that it was fake leather then gave up and just say "yep it's leather!" I love it when people say wow what nice leather seats... My little secret!

Nothing beats the REAL SMELL OF LEATHER  I know the MCS will look the same. Just keep the seats clean and use leather food, and your leather seats will always look and smell great

This happened to us. The leather on both of the fron seats started flaking off on the sides. The solution.. the seat covers were replaced under warranty.

I got the dimpled Profile Leather and I love the look! Leatherette doesn't come that way. Matches my rubber floor mats too! But alas, I've got a MFSW with the leather flaking off. I know there's been talk about this on the forums, and with a month wait time for servicing, I'm not looking forward to leaving it at a dealer, but of course, this shouldn't be happening after 7 months and 16,000 miles.

So far it's just the little scratch/tear thing. If it gets worse of starts flaking I'll be making a trip to the dealership.

I love my space cloth, its not trying to pretend to be leather or anything else Plus the grey/black combo looks really slick.

If you do have leather, I'm with D.J.
Monthly or as needed I apply leather cleaner and leather conditioner. Makes the leather look new and smells good.
If you don't like that kind of effort then leatherette is very low maintenance.
Space cloth is a good choice if leatherette is to vinyl like or sticky for your climate.

My MCS has 13,000 miles after 14 months and the blue lapis leather looks new. No sags, no wear.

It's true. Everyone thinks it's leather. Wears really well. But if the 03 MCS had more leather color choices (like red), well...........

I made a nice little hole in my leatherette seats by sitting down with a sharp screwdriver in my pocket. Ironically, the screwdriver WAS for poking a hole in a grommet on the firewall so I could run some wires. I guess I'll fill it with that Permatex goop.
