About ordering paceman...

Hi, I am a new member here...reading up on lots of stuff...

I noticed some people asking about 'true price' on mini...so I was kind of
wondering if haggling was not common practice at mini dealerships...?

I just wanted to see if my situation will probably be a lot different since I am
getting a brand new model...maybe there won't be much wiggle room to
negotiate? Or will they still work hard to make customers happy??
(btw, I won't be getting one off the lot...) Since this will be my first ever mini
purchase, I am not sure how to approach this...

If any of you have two cents for me, I'd be very appreciative.

thx for reading my post...

Depends on the dealership, but I haven't heard very often people getting more than $1,500 off. Right now, MINI is having a "Spring Cleaning Sales Event" through April. I would definitely take advantage of this if you are planning on getting a MINI soon.

Both of the dealers I went to told me they typically don't haggle much with their prices...... That doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

When it comes down to it.....If the dealer has to toss in a few options, or chop a bit off the price to make a sale, 9/10 they are going to do it so long a they are still going to make a reasonable profit. After all, a reduced profit is better than no profit. However this will depend on mini popularity, and number of dealers In your area.

The one place I was able to negotiate was with financing...... The first time they ran the numbers, they wanted to stick me with 5.9%........ I told them to run the numbers again and left..... I got a call 1hr later saying they could do 1.9%

Regardless of how nice the salesman is..... He is still a car salesman, negotiate accordingly.

Nothing wrong with "haggling" although I would use the term "negotiate" instead. Make use of the internet and phones. Call different dealerships, even in different states. Tell them you're flying out to visit family and was trying to see if they can make it worth your while to drive it home, etc. Then use the lowest number to "negotiate" with your local dealership. Like the other poster mentioned, they will sell if there's still some profit for them. Heck, some will sell even if it's just to break even since it increases their "allotment" in the future(although I doubt this applies to MINIs as much since the majority of us order specifically) Oh and another thing is, go to the dealership and say that you're thinking about buying a small crossover and the Paceman is on the short list(instead of saying I want the Paceman specifically. Be polite, firm and don't be afraid to walk. Some of my negotiating have taken 3-4 weeks to play itself out, while others took 3 hours.

mentioned here...
I did manage to find a couple of dealers in our area...

my dream car very soon!!!

I built my R60 on the configurator and then sent the specs to 5 dealerships within 4 hour driving distance so I could shop them all. Once I got a good number from one, I asked if the others could match it and went from there. Once I narrowed it to one, I negotiated a little more with that one and ended up with $2,500 off and the flat load floor thrown in.

The "true price" concept only applies to certain dealerships that fall under a group of dealerships owned by the same company. Don't let them scare you.

Good luck!
