P0717 - Input/Turbine Speed Sensor 'A' Circuit No Signal Read more: http://www.motor

Is it just me... or am I the only Mini driver to have this code?
I have found 100's of listings of the error, but no fixes listed on any website.

I guess I need to tow it back to the BMW dealer.. So much for driving it to work tomorrow.

Do you have an automatic trans?

Do you have shifting problems?

If you do these are somethings that cause it, Transmission speed sensor circuit is open or shorted, Poor transmission speed sensor circuit connection, Faulty transmission speed sensor or it could be the wire harness.

The input speed sensor detects the primary pulley revolution speed and sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Engine Control Module.

Yes automatic.
It went from smooth to semi hard shift, to safe mode-will not downshift-stays in 6th, to check engine light, and now will not leave 3rd gear in 3 minutes of driving today. Thanks god I wasn't doing 70 mph.

Very good thing it did not happen at that speed. Get it to the dealer and have them check it out. Good luck.

2009. Clubman S
40,000 miles.
Not sure which trans it has. It is an automatic, 6 speed, with the steering wheel paddle shifters if that helps.

When did your warranty expire? Couldn't have bee too long ago. Press MINI USA on this... and the dealer you bought the car from. Do not go gentle.

depending on the repair cost, I am staying firm with them. So far, I am getting a loaner car tomorrow and they are towing it ( 60 miles ) back to the dealer. So maybe I can stay in their good graces and them pick up the repair bill.

Again, I hope it is something cheap and easy to fix, and even then I am going to hem them up for payment.. It is United BMW in Roswell, GA... so hopefully since it is a reputable dealer, they will want to save face and help me out.

Keep your fingers crossed...

BTW - How can I contact Mini directly about the expired warranty ?

Did you buy it from a MINI dealer? At 39 miles, they are your first recourse. The factory warranty is 48K miles/4 years from delivery. MINI (and most manufacturers) often grant a shadowy 'grace period'.

If whoever you bought it from doesn't offer to make it right, call a lawyer.

I called Mini USA.
They were pretty nice and said the car is out of warranty ( time, not miles ) and hopefully the dealer will repair free/cheap to save face. They did report my 'terrifying experience' when the trans locked up..

Mini said that IF the dealer does nothing, I could get it diagnosed at a Mini dealer and SOMETIMES Mini USA will pay for it, since it does have low miles out of 'good faith'... Sounds doubtful, but keep your fingers crossed. it is just a sensor or something..

Work through the MINI dealer. Ask them. Warranty repairs are money in their pocket, and they can be pretty good about being your advocate.

Without naming names, where did you buy the car? A dealer (any make)? A Used Car lot? An individual? A MINI/BMW dealer?

Not a Mini dealer, but United BMW in Roswell, GA ( the #1 BMW dealer in Georgia ).. so a step above a buy here/pay here lot. haha

Actually Mini said 4 year, 50k.. so my 4 years ran out in October, but I still below 50k miles... Hopefully they will make it right...

Good that it was a BMW dealer. I think you'll be taken care of.

Was it "certified" by any chance?

Be nice, but firm.

Update...
It was picked up this morning and sent to BMW dealer....
I called a few times with " still waiting on diagnosis"
I call again and ask for service... And find out they haven't seen it nor diagnose Mini's... Apparently sent to 3rd party repair shop ( not mini/BMW dealer ).

Then they say the car ' reset' itself and the trans light is now off.. ??
I say, I'm not worried about the light, but rather the reason the trans locked up at 40mph.
Still no answer,,, but at least I did get a. 2011 BMW 335i loaner... At least they are trying ...
