I have an 03 MCS, and I had recently bought drilled and slotted rotors.
Rears were warped and while waiting for a new set, I purchased some OEM rotors to get by on.

Long story short, I ran into a problem with with my rear brakes, the drivers side was rattling bad. It sounds like there is no pressure on the pad at all. However, when applying the brake, noise goes away, on a lift, brake grabs. E-brake holds on that specific wheel as well as the passenger side.

I really don't want to just start purchasing parts and guess and test.

What is really worrying me, is that my lower control arm on drivers side is slightly bent. It's nothing noticeable to the eye, but it is tweaked a little. It was tweaked before the problem though. However the pads didn't start rattling until I hit a speed bump!

Try putting some anti-squeal goo on the back of the pads. It helped my '04 with the same problem.

 

I put them on with the pad change. This *rattling* is alot of rattling. It sounds like the pads are just flopping around in my caliper, just slapping against my brake rotor.

 

Did you make sure the inner pad is clipped on to the piston? It's a common issue.

 

honestly...no, but i didn't think of that because the old ones just fell out. i thought they clipped themselves when you put pressure on the piston! thats definately going to be the first thing i check tomorrow! thanks alot!!!

 

no they don't just press on IME

you need to slide the pad onto the piston from the open end so the clips engage

 

+1 on the slide method the two side metal wire /springs grab the slotted head of the piston as well as the bottom metal wire / spring. Open slide of course.

it was both problems! I slide the pad on. The brakes quieted down a bit. Took wheel back off, noticed retainer clip was only touching top side of caliper and not bottom side, so I bent it just a small amount and that stopped the rattling. I get a very faint squeak now :( I've driven 400 miles already, I guess the clip needs a little more adjusting but thanks for all the help!!!!

 

Great news. Glad you got things fixed. When doing a brake job the outside retainer clip retains tension on the caliper to carrier.

 

update, brakes are still squeaking at all times again. it was quiet, at least i thought, for a few days and got loud...not making any flopping noises anymore, however, non-stop squeaks are making me angry!!! i've had these brakes apart, probably 8 times in a month.

 

There is a lubricant you can get to put on your pads and rotors to help stop the squeaking.
