R50/53 Took the long way home
Took the long way home
Yesterday was not your typical slug to and from the office in the Bay Area.
I was allowed to drive the R53 which used to be mine but is now my partner's car - meaning I only get to drive it when it needs something. Yesterday I had setup an appointment with a paintless dent repair guy to assess if he could repair a dent in the passenger door.
Anyway, I quickly had a smile on my face and felt it was going to be a good driving day when I heard the pop and burble from the Dinan exhaust as I decelarated to the stop sign at the end of my street. I drove through a canyon road on the way to work instead of the freeway. That was good, but not great cuz there were other cars in front of me.
Nirvana came after the PDR appointment which gave me the opportunity to take one of my favorite "shortcuts" in the Bay Area. This fantastic little stretch of road has very little traffic and carves through yet another canyon with tons of elevation changes, great curves, and hairpins. I had no partner and no dogs in the car so I could really have a little fun - and I did. Drives like this make me miss the R53 as a daily driver.

The bad news is the PDR guy could not fix the car yesterday, the good news is he can fix it next Thursday and I will be taking the same shortcut

Find a copy of "Blue Highways" by William Least Heat-Moon (Trogdon). You are on the verge. Another one to show you the rest of the way through the door to the realm is "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig.

The Supertramp reference must have been subliminal. I actually have some of their albums on vinyl. How is that or dating myself
I am a big fan too. You should get some of Roger Hodgeson CD's then. They are equal if not better IMO.

Beautiful Marin County!! I want to go for a cruise to Muir Beach in the MINI, mostly because the way to get there. ;-) I haven't been able to justify this cruise since I've owned.. Lolol. I have, however, made it from Santa Rosa to the nice hills of Angwin. You may want to treat yourself to a Google map and planning a day of wine country cruising then tasting.

As to wine country, I am a big fan but we usually go up there with the 3 series convertible. It is practically on auto pilot going up to Headlsburg then into the Alexander and Dry Creek valleys. Have five wine clubs and do several events a year so we get up there abount once a month.
This is why I call the Bay Area the Golden Cage. Lots of great things to do but taxes are a killer.
That was in the Oakland hills not Marin County. Went from 24 through Moraga over into the Oakland Hills as I live near Merritt College. That avoided the backup at the Caldecott tunnel. I do that periodically as well as taking Redwood Road from Castro Valley if 580 is messed up. Fun shortcuts
