Stainless pedal warning

To start this off, I am usually a bargain shopper and sometimes don't mind used parts if they are in great condition.

I wanted the stainless steel pedal set for a while because mine are getting pretty beat up and these would make a nice replacement. I always start with mini parts of south atlanta to find a part number because I like their website and the diagrams (Link). Next I search the part number and see which reputable mini/bmw re-sellers have it cheap (DDM tuning) has worked for me before and is the cheapest at 129.12. Then I like to search ebay for the separate parts or sets together because, like I said at the beginning, used/good condition parts will suffice if the price is right. I found these on ebay and talked to the guy about lowering the price. Even after explaining to him the price was cheaper for a new set than his used set and sending him some links to other sellers(ecs and turner) who sell new sets for cheaper he still would not drop the price and told me off.

I understand he can sell them for any price he wants on ebay and is not obligated to adjust it for me, so... Has he done any wrong? No, but I feel that anyone looking for pedals should be aware of this and stay clear. I'm not asking anyone to harass this guy just not to buy from him.

Sorry about the rant, It bothers me when people aren't sincere of fare about things like this. I manage a large business and I know the difference between ripping people off and being fare.

Life's not fair. Scammers are everywhere. People on ebay overbid constantly. I just watched a Valentine One remote display go for $61. They are $39 from V1.
Is he morally wrong? Sure. If they want too much, just walk away.

Some folks can make $$ just by getting lucky, being at the right place at the right time....the seller can sell for any price they want. It is NOT the deal for you, but maybe for the right person...maybe an international buyer when the new seller will not ship, it might make sense....or to the person who never looks for the new one...some folks are not so smart...

Those are pedal covers. Most of the cost involved in that $160 is for that gas pedal replacement. I usually see those for around $100 themselves, used.

Sorry but i'm not following you. the links you posted are covers also. You shouldn't need to replace the full gas pedal unless it is having issues. OR you're just looking for the factory design. If not then the 50.00 covers should fix and aesthetic issues you might be having.

Nope. What he linked to is the OEM pedal setup. As far as OEM goes, there is no cover you put on the throttle. You either buy the whole assembly or go aftermarket. You are correct in saying the rest are covers. But that throttle pedal assembly ain't cheap. And is the majority of the cost here.

You are entirely correct though, in saying that if it's purely about aesthetics, you can go cheaper in aftermarket. But OEM is pretty darn nice, and is my preference. I bought my car used and wish the original owner bought the steel pedals, but alas. I bought the clutch and brake covers, but have been holding off on the throttle... its a luxury buy for me.
