Switched power auto meter elect boost gauge

The auto meter boost gauge instructions say I need switched power that that stays on when the engine is cranked. This ensures the self calibration doesn't reset while cranking and cause inaccurate readings.

Where might I tap in the wiring harness neatly to provide the power?

I've read the install threads at http://www.billswebspace.com/R53GaugeInstallation.htm
but I'm looking for more specifics. The seat heater switch was one recommendation but I'll have to check that one with a VOM.

I just don't want to fry any control modules in the process.
Thanks

You can get ignition switched power from the cigarette lighter and illumination from the lighted ring around it. I remember going for a wire in the rpm gauge on the steering for mine, but I don't remember the color.

USe the 12 v cig lighter. It's your safest bet IMO. Little bit of work routing the wires, but worth it.

I went for the seat heater switch. I found a lot of accessories stay on during cranking. I think that's because they operate at such a low voltage these days. So the gauge calibrates just fine.

Anyway everything works great except the dimmer portion of the lighting. The voltage coming off the dimmer circuit is only 3-4Vdc so the 12V bulb barely lit the gauge. I went to the same 12V wire as the gauge and now it looks pretty much the same as the OEM instruments.
