R60 Throttle jump/hiccup
Throttle jump/hiccup
My 2013 CountrymanS All4 seems to have an occasional hiccup/cutout when traveling at steady speed. It doesn't happen during acceleration. Of course my SA hasn't heard of any problems. I think that the 2013 is a new ECU tune. I have the manual. Anybody else noticing this?
I have not noticed it but I will try and pay attention the next time I am out.
Any specific speed/revs?
I think that was a symptom of the coolant temp sensor that was common on first year cars. Back then it was referred to as a "stumble". I would suggest doing a search for stumble and reading those posts for symptoms to see if they match yours. If yes, it was resolved with coolant temp sensor. Since you indicate it happens more when car is still in warming up process, that could be it.
I've experienced the same hiccup/stumble in my 2011 CMSA4.
A few months ago, I took it in for a check engine light and told them about the hiccup while I was there. The CEL was for the coolant temp sensor, which they replaced. And my SA also said that should fix the hiccup too.
It's been a few months and so far so good.

Thought I'd update this old thread. The engine 'stumbling' issue has come back. It's happened during several road trips and occasionally in town. I have an appointment on Thursday for my brakes and I'm going to request the SIM-12-02-11 update.

My wife said ours did this several times the other day. There were no check engine lights or nothing. She took it to the dealer and they found nothing. Yesterday it did it again while i was in the car with her. Now I'm sure there is something going on. I'm glad im a member here on NAM. I can allways find mini help here!

Probably does not pertain to the concerns of this thread.....but you never know. Below is a post from about a month ago......
I had the same systems as described as well as during acceleration....Had all the software updates, sensors replaced along with a new clutch...and then had these issues....somewhat as you are describing....
Not sure if this is related to others.... But what service found was that a bolt used to hold/secure my VIP Shield when I installed the BOV a few years back had loosened up/backed off just enough that during acceleration the ground would not have constant contact and would give me that intermittent split second jerk/stumble during acceleration from 2nd, 3rd and even 4th.
Hard to believe......but 700 + miles this past weekend @ Mini's On Top in NH and no issues This is not the same stumble/hesitation I experienced during stand still start prior to the clutch replacement. Due to the 3rd party part and install, dealer had to charge the $125. for time to investigate and fix.... They added a washer to prevent from backing off.....
Since that post it has happened again...I checked the bolt with the ground and sure enough it loosened up again....I removed the heat shield, fabricated and redirected the support bracket to another bolt. Tightened up the grounding bolt....and things have been fine. Even if you have nothing attached to that bolt...just give it a few snugs with the wrench....I was amazed at what little play was there...but what major issue it caused....
my 2cents worth...

Yes....When I installed the VIP BOV, the heat shield was held in place by 3 brackets to be attached to existing bolts, one of which is the main ground...One of my employees installed it for me....have not had a problem until recently. During a follow appointment...service department pointed it out...they added a washer but over time it still works itself loose. A few days after attending MOT I heard a rattle...and again it was the shield and I could actually wiggle the ground to the point were the engine would cut out....I could see exactly how that loose ground would effect the engine, during shifting, accelerating...it happened cruising at highway speeds...I'm not saying that is the fix for those experiencing the throttle jump/hiccup....but it sure caused me a lot of havoc....
So I got the SIM-12-02-11 update done today.
Can't say if it will help the throttle 'stumbling' issue at high RPMs, but I like the new throttle map a lot. RPMs used to hiccup as I engaged 1st gear, making takeoffs a little dicey, but that's gone now. Power delivery is a lot smoother across the band, so I'm a lot happier.
I don't know why they didn't offer this upgrade with the other TSBs they brought to my attention. I had to specifically request it.
