16x7 tire size

I recently picked up a set of Slipstreams, and now just need to get some tires to go along with them.

Can anyone confirm that 225/45/16 tires will work with 16x7 +40 wheels and stock suspension? Bonus points if you have any pics

(Sorry if this is obvious - I tried searching, but wasn't able to find anything conclusive)

I ran 215/50 years ago. I liked the size on the 16x7s I had at the time.

For some reason tirerack stocks almost nothing in that size, but discouttiredirect has a decent selection.

What kind of tire are you looking for?

Were I shopping in that size, I'd grab some Hankook V12s.

I'm looking for a summer-only performance tire.

Well 225/45/16 has a nice selection of extreme performance summer and DOT track tires and not much else. Dunlop Dirreza ZII, BFG KDW2 Toyo R1R, all of which are pretty expensive ($500-600) but awesome tires.

215/50/16 has some decent max performance summer tires and some ultra high performance summers. The Falken 453, Yokohama S.drives, Hankook V12 and more affordable ($400-500).

205/50/16 has a little bit of everything available.

At stock height none of these should be a problem. If choosingwith performance and cost in mind I would go with 225/45 Dunlop Direzza ZII first, 215/50 Hankook V12 second

Thanks for the help everyone. Now that I'm looking around a bit more, I'm starting to lean towards 215/45 or 215/50 just for more variety. Would there be any significant difference between those two sizes?

I know you guys are running them on R53's, but do you feel sluggish on acceleration with wider tires? I know it's great for breaking, but how's it launching the car?
