Does anybody make a cup holder to mount to the drivers door bar? The mini fini one would but it would hold the cup horizontal. :???: I think that would be a better position for a cup holder.

Any ideas?

You might not want to put a cup holder where the side airbags might insert a coffee cup into your ribcage.

We really are lacking a good cup holder. I have had to learn how to blindly retrieve and replace my cups from the holder behind the parking brake.

Paul,

Take a look at this thread. It may be the solution for you.

I dont think there are air bags in the door. I thought they came down form the roof, A pillars and steering wheel and seat. Airbag into the legs with or without a cup would be a bad thing.

That other holder seems better now that I look as It is higher. But the door mount would be good for both passenger and driver.

What is the big deal......my car came with a holder mounted on the column that holds up the dashboard (I guess, the vertical silver thingy I call it) and it hinges so it is very convenient, takes about any mug that I own and I don't bang against it at all. If I did, I would just have to swivel it away from me.,no big deal. The two little ones below truly suck, even with the mugs......(wasted 22 bucks on that move)

My car came with the MiniFini cup holder......the first couple of times I shifted I noticed a slight bump into the cup holder and thought "this is unsat". Then I touched the thing and noticed it swiveled. I like it a lot and am glad MINI decided to provide it to me at no charge.

The one on the up riser is what I'm talking about, When I shift into fifth with a passenger I hit ht e cup holder. I going to take it out.

As for the little holders, I use them for my Phone and change.

Or you could swivel it out of the way...

As for a cup holder mounted on the door - the first time you slam that door with a drink in the holder I think you'll reconsider that idea while wiping up the mess!

Swivel out of my way and into the passenger...what great advice It not in a good position--period. Out of the shifter way and into the passengers legs.

When I drink in my car as I leave I take it with me. Leaving drinks in the car is a no-no. But I do see your point althoughI dont see myself loading the door holder--then getting in my car and closing the door( I also dont slam my door).

I'm just going to take it off, till I find something better. I dont eat and drink that much in my mini.

Without too much effort the holder will pop free fo the mount. You could take it out when you have a passenger.

Well what can I tell you - when I have it swiveled to the right, it's nowhere near my wife's legs when she's riding with me. It works for me, sorry if it doesn't work for you. Just trying to help.

And I wasn't thinking you'd put a fresh drink in the door then get in and slam it. I was thinking you (or a passenger) might reach a destination with a forgotten half full drink in the door, get out, and slam it.

My wife, who I'm absolutely sure would complain, never says anything about the Minifini cup holder being in her way. Maybe you just haven't swiveled it to the exact right position.

I think it would be hard to design an accessory cup holder better than the Minifini one. I would even think this had it not been free.

Get a short shift kit, it'll give your hand more clearance to the cup holder.

Cup holders in MINIs are lame.
'Tis true, and surely a shame.
Your knee will hit,
The mug that won't fit,
But it's our drinkin' habit really to blame.

There's limited space in the MINI, its gonna be hard to make a cupholder that will suit everyone. But you could asways do what I used to do in my Honda civic: Hang a camelbak from the passenger headrest and just grab the tube and drink when you need to! You keep your eyes on the road this way too. Come to think of it, they should make a camelbak car system that fits inside the seat or something.
