Piano Black or Carbon Black Cockpit Surface

Has any one compared the Carbon Black with the Piano Black in the Cockpit? Is the Carbon Black more of a gray that has a carbon fiber look?

Thanks

Does anyone happen to have any pictures of what the interior Carbon Black trim looks like?

Thanks in advance.

Carbon black is a matte black finish with no pattern. I find it quite acceptable over all for looks and durrability. I've only had one vehicle that came with piano black and I swapped it out ASAP. PB is a marketing ploy - would you opt for it if they called it "shiney black plastic that shows fingerprints and smudges, scratches easily, and requires TLC"?

Thanks. When I was originally ordering I was going to go with the PB but overlooked that option. I was then going to try and change it but it already started production. It is scheduled to be done 02/20. DO you have any interior pics?

Thanks for your time.

Is it possible/feasible to swap out piano black for the carbon in the future?
Just realized that the one other option our incoming car has is PB, but my wife has only seen the carbon black, and she might not like it...IF she even notices...

Not in my 2013 Roadster. The carbon black has a pattern which imitates carbon fiber. I personally like it much better that the piano black. Sorry, I don't have a picture available but if I can remember, I will take one later when I am in the car and post it.

Sorry, I'm referencing Countryman. I may be confused, but what I recall is that only the checkered black has a pattern and texture.

I'm neither, but I know here well enough to realize that sometimes the smallest thing will drive her crazy, and the biggest thing she won't even notice....

I also know her well enough that I know I don't nderstand her at all...

You are absolute right and I was confused. The options are "Dash Surfaces in Black Checkered" or "Dash Surfaces in Piano Black". I was confusing the black checkered option with the "Carbon Black Color Line" option which my car has. The options there include "Carbon Black Color Line" and "Dark Gray Color Line". Maybe the OP was confusing the dash surface option with the color line option. The dash surface option is for the plastic panel in the cneter of the dash which includes the "secret" compartment on the passenger side while the color line is the vinyl covering on the lower dash and armrests. There, the carbon black is a dark black with leather grained texture. The black checkered dash surface has a black/gray checkered texture which to me resembles carbon fiber.

Piano black is the worst. I have the black checkered pattern on the down tubes under the speedo, and I wish you could get it on the door panels in the R60. I ended up wrapping all the piano black pieces with carbon fiber vinyl.

Now I am hoping the change did not hit the order. I love the look I just don't want the hassle of cleaning fingerprints. If anyone has pics of the carbon black that they can share I would appreciate it.

Agreed with Sealy......and after 2 previous mini's, my countryman has no PB plastic to get frustrated and irritated over smudges and prints to continually clean and polish. I now save that for the exterior cosmic blue
Soon to swap the ugly gray trim of the Mickey face and vents for the 2013 subdued black trim....

I use the samev tuff to clean the pano black trim as I do te lacquered wood on the BMWs: Pledge. Fairly easy process of spray, wipe, repeat 4 to 6 weeks later. By the time there is dust on the trim, the whole car is a mess anyway.

What I can't seem to get clean is the carpet. Impossible to get dog hair out. Tried brushes too. Any tips?

With the Pledge….Same issue here with our Rotti….even bought a special dog hair attachment with the bristles spinning for the german powered car vac….Somewhat helpful…but probably no better than a regular brush. Once this NE weather warms up... she may have a new look to her…hairless and bald.

That's a lot of dog, but mostly black hair at least. Good luck with the hair removal process.

Here are two photos of piano black and the carbon. Sorry for poor photo quality. Sun wasn't working with me.

We use large, heavy duty plastic trash bags. Put the dog in and tie tightly around the neck. Other than that, the big vacs at the quarter car wash. Some work better than others, just have to find the right one. (Side note - my SO took our 3 to the groomer two weeks ago. I just have not been able to face the hair, yet. Got the back covered and I'm ignoring it until spring.)

^^^ I guess that's better than what I threaten to do to them every once in a while:
1. Take them back to the owners who no longer wanted them.
2. Get them stuffed and just carry them around.

All in jest of course. Our two little monsters are spoiled rotten and I wouldn't have it any other way. Just wish CM carpet cleaned up easier.

Thanks for the pictures!!! When I ordered my JCW Countryman my only option in that area was piano black and one with the chili red stripes. I wish I could have selected the carbon black in that center area. That looks sharp!
