Has anyone had any experience with either of these tires yet? I’m looking for a set for track days this year and some high speed AutoX and i need to stay at a 200 tread wear to stay in my class. These 2 look the best of all to me…

 

Not much out yet for either of these Extreme Summer tires let alone head to head track comparison.

Not sure about the treadwear ratings for the last two.

For track days you want more durability with consistent grip-
I'd suggest the BFG Rival assuming you can get the size you want/need.

Another post in that thread suggests the V720 won't be available this year.

 

Thanks for the links it looks like the bfg's are slightly better only downside i see now it they wont be available until mid-April on tire rack so i may get the Dunlop’s because i need them by April 20th, and they are slightly cheaper gotta think positive. I’m slightly apprehensive towards the bfg's anyway h ran the sport comp 2's last year a few times and did not get near the grip needed for the track but they are great street tires!

 

Bridgestone RE-11A's are being introduced this month and at fantastic prices. Much less than the out going Re-11's.

Well.... I had to wait and wait and wait for my BFG Rivals while I ran my worn out Hankook RS3's for 5 more AX events

.... but finally.... like the Christmas morning for a young child the wait is over.

I almost broke down and ordered the ZII or the RE11A.... but good things come to those with patience. I cannot believe how well these tires work.... finally... a product where performance actually exceeds the expectations and hype. At my Rival's first AX I ran faster times than some very good drivers I have never been within 3 seconds previously... and in sight of others with better cars and talent. I can say I did not wiggle once, the car turned easily, and stuck like glue when I applied the gas! A friend if mine, a very good driver with 30 years or experience, was only 1 second faster with a Lotus Exige and Hooiser A6 tires! My car is a Stock R56 S with only a 22 Mil rear sway.

 

Interesting! How long were your runs?

 

Average driver times were about 41 - 42 seconds. Most of the faster times were 37-38 second range (a very few were faster)... I know it is all subjective and hard to quantify... but I know where I usually stack up in the mix. I am looking forward to the longer courses at other events later this year to see where I really am... but I am very encouraged.

 

I am seeing a lot of the Rivals at the NER events at Devens, and have heard nothing but good things.

 

I have a copy of the June issue of Grassroots Motorsports comparing the Rival, ZII, and Toyo R1R. The article was written by Andy Hollis. Rival easier to drive and faster.

I've been running on both all year(on S2000s) and have lots of experience with Z1s too.
Both are very close time-wise but get there differently.

Dunlops turn in better(no tire except the AD08 feels as sharp as the Z1 or Z2) but have a narrower slip angle at the limit. They are the stronger tire when transitioning and take the least amount of time to 'take a set'. They also seem to have a wider happy window for temperature.

The Rivals are easier to modulate and catch at the limit. They need a little longer to take a set but at the same time allow you to be a more aggressive when powering out of elements.

Rivals are optimal when running a slight stretch(much like the R1R and RS3) so stick to running at least 10mm narrower than what you'd normally run with a Dunlop.

We've also noticed that Rivals plateau quick if you don't manage the core temperatures with spraying. With ambient temperatures over 60°F and two drivers, it is mandatory to start spraying after first runs.

Both are very strong, and I prefer the Dunlop Z2s. For me, they require less work to be fast, assuming you are smooth with your inputs. It's also hard not to be spoiled by their responsiveness.
