Voice Button to Siri Mod

Is it possible to reprogram the on-board computer to treat the steering wheel voice button as a Siri button. It sounds like "Eyes Free" is in the iOS API now, but I assume we have to change the MINI on-board computer to respond?

YES. It will only work on non-nav units.

Like you, I've been looking for a solution. I've read Mini was supposed to come out with some kind of update, but I've not seen it yet. The button is still "hooked up", as it will display a message if you select it while on the phone...but still haven't found a way to get Siri to work w/o having to go third party

But not on Gen 2 MINIs.

Urg, I just realized that. I have a 2009 R56, so it won't work for me either.

I do have an idea though, if you can disconnect the voice control button that is already there, and wire a bluetooth remote with siri compatibility to that button, would it work?

Here's the remote: http://www.satechi.net/index.php/sat...remote-control

That remote has a home button, that when held will activate Siri. Maybe we can take apart the remote and then solder the button's connection to the button on the steering wheel with some wire?

I've read that you can reprogram the on-board computer to do a lot of things (like one-touch sun roof opening). I'm just wondering if there's a way to tell the computer to to treat the voice button like I'm pressing the home button, and connect that through the USB.

I guess you could rewire everything, but I see this as an on-board computer issue rather than a hardware issue.

Thoughts?

Would be nice for our 2013s since the voice button on the wheel does nothing.

I actually called Mini about this and they put it down in my file. I asked if they were going to come out with an update and haven't heard back yet.

I used this button along with Siri on my BMW and had the same thought but then was told it wasn't added in the 2013's. Not a big deal but I would still like to see something be done to have this button be functional.

I don't get that. My MA told me the same thing when I picked up my car last month, but the voice control button *does* work. 2013 MC, with Connected & Nav.

I've reprogrammed my car in the past, and I learned that unfortunately it's not possible to do this through a coding job. The code must already have been written by BMW for the button, and as of now none of the MINIs have code that can be simply enabled for Siri Eyes Free.

Even the 2009 Voice Control Button is basically useless. There's no documentation and there's very little you can do with it. I'm as of now looking into a solution to simply disconnect the Voice Control button and hardwire it to a button on a relatively cheap bluetooth remote. This would allow me to effectively have a Siri button. Any thoughts?

i don't know if anyone knows this but as long as your iPhone is connected to power, you can just say "Hey Siri" and it activates Siri.

To do this, go into Settings > General > Siri > Turn on "Allow 'Hey Siri'"

:D
