Brian, Anyone,

What would you suggest as starting tire pressure for the Kumho Ecsta V700? I ran the Test and Tune at Fed Ex at 40 front/36 rear, and it felt OK, but I have no point of reference on these tires, so I thought I'd ask.

Suspension stock.

Any advice welcomed. Thanks,

Jim

Jim -

Assuming outside air temp of 70 degrees or more I would start the fronts at 40 cold and start the rears at 32. Depending on the track temp the fronts should heat up about 5-8 psi and the rears 3-5 psi. Adjust fronts to keep them at 45-50 and rears to keep a 7-10 psi differential depending on how you like the rotation. More differential = More rotation.

I'll make it easier for you and we'll do it the right way by using a pyrometer on the 18th. Just make sure you bug me about it, or I'll forget.
We'll determine the pressures then using BlueMCS's suggestions to start.
I've never actually run Ecstas on my own car, so I never kept up with the pressure requirements.

Thanks guys. 40/32 to start. And Brian, I'll take you up on that.

Cheers,

Jim

I haven't tried that much of a differential. I usually do 2-3 lbs, but I also have a rear sway bar to help with my rotation.

50 front, 45 rear. At 50 pounds the chalk was coming off to the edge of the tread. I started at 45/45 and adjusted from there.

Well, I started with 42/35. Brian helped me out with the pyrometer, and it seemed the fronts needed a couple more pounds. So I added two pounds. This was a little better, but the tires still felt a bit greasy. Next time I think I'll try 47/41 or something like that.

Mainly, I gotta get a pyrometer of my own. Maybe I can nail the pressures May 8.

I did 45 all the way around and it felt great. Rotation was a problem, but the tires stuck like crazy.

don't you want to have more in the rear to help rotation?

After experimenting in several events, I'm now running 47 all around, and it feels much better. It's hard to get used to on an intellectual level, but my butt definitely likes it.

Reading the old posts, it's hard to imagine running the car with 35 in the rears, like I did first time out.

I shared this with some guys I know who run ZO6s, and they are incredulous. But with the MCS, higher pressure definitely works.

Cheers.
