iPhone 5 and official adapter w/o Connected
Hi
There are lots of threads on this but not found one that clearly answers this qn:
I have a June 2010 Mini r56.
The car has nav and HK but was built just before connected became an option.
I have an iPhone 5 and an official Apple 30 pin to Lightning connector.
I have a y cable that I bought on eBay / amazon.
I can play music through the y cable using the above.
I tend to listen to music from offline spotify playlists on my phone rather than iTunes. However, the buttons on the dashboard stereo for 'forwards and backwards' don't do anything with this configuration and the only way to move between tracks is via the interface on the phone itself.
So I'm no better off than playing music through a standard aux lead.
Has anyone worked out any way around this so I could, have some basic controls eg backwards and forwards through tracks in a paylist from the dashboard? Would this situation be any different if I had a 'genuine' y lead?
I am not expecting full spotify integration with the car, but I have had other phones that have out of the car recognised basic signals from controls on headphone cords and moved backwards between Spotify tracks.
My y lead does work ok - functionality is fine with an iPod with 30 pin connector paying thru I tunes.
Interested in any thoughts...

Although I don't have an answer to your question, I would love to know something about your setup:
Does it display the artist and title information on your car's display? I recently bought a cheap lighting connector adaptor,
the pigtail version, not just the adaptor, but it seems to not want to play well with my eBay y cable. It connects to my Computer fine to sync and charge, so I know it works, but it's a no go with my MINI setup.
Although the steering wheel might not work with it, I'd love to have at least the artist & title information in my car, and would possibly bite the bullet and buy the Apple cable if it would work at least in that manor.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Just bought the apple pigtail adapter from BB and I now have full control of my phone when playing music as before. Tracks skip via the steering wheel, info shows on the mini screen. This was with an eBay y cable in a 2008MCS.
I have a 3rd party y cable and with the genuine apple adapter and it is also charging the phone when it is plugged in.

Yes and no. Yes it charges but the car's USB port probably isn't near 1A like you would get form a wall charger. If I am using GPS or the phone or one thing and have BT on it will begin to charge but at a slightly reduced rate. Say I am on a cal, via BT, using Pandora, and GPS it will actually lose a charge, it's slow but the phone can use more juice than the car can provide but this isn't usually an issue.
