Moab

So thinking about taking a road trip out to Moab Utah, check out canyon lands ECT. Saw that they have lots of trails to drive that look like a All4 could handle, anyone got any Utah experience? Dont want to get out there and find out that I should have rented a jeep. Any thoughts on the lift kit and some more aggressive off-road tires? Thanks.

In the past I would go out there every year biking. Amazing place. The sky is so blue there. Not a lot of experience with trails tho. You must go!

Be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been there a bunch with either dirt bike, MT bike or 4x4. There are trails/dirt roads that you can drive on but you have to know where you are going. The 4x4 trails are that and much more, you can get as extreme as you want to. That place is very deceptive and sometimes you find out after it’s too late. It’s best to talk to people in the know when you get there (rental shops, guided tour places, etc.) so you don’t get in the wrong place.
On the other hand, that place is well worth trip no matter where you live, I highly recommend it. Also, if you drive south from MOAB, it’s a nice drive with lots to see and do.

My father did it in a Hummer H2. He said it was incredible. He also did the Rubicon trail in it. It took him 3 days to go 12 miles and he would camp out along the way.

Rent a jeep I've driven mine in gravel roads wearing Blizzak snow tires (it's a greater camp hauler) and that's it. I wouldn't take it on much more.

Utah has beautiful, amazing places. Canyonlands and Moab are a good start. If you go to Bryce Canyon take a link road (paved) over to Torrey and Capitol Reef and experience a curvy scenic Mini bliss as great as the Pacific Coast Highway. Cheers!

Moab

I don't think the all 4 has high enough clearance I have done several trails in a jeep. But wouldn't take my mini.

If you go tell us the trails you did in our mini

Been watching the tourism videos, think trails are a bit much for all4. Guess what I should have said was dirt roads but even at that I think if we are getting off pavement a hike would be better. Its 1300+ miles out there might want to stretch the legs a bit anyway. Thanks for all the insight!

Even in the relatively mild mountains around the SF Bay Area you can have unpleasant surprises in an ALL4 - protection would be a minimum (Detroit Tuned) and a lift kit would be a good idea if you're going to give it a try. Catching the transfer case or other tender bits underneath is very expensive...

And definitely spare tire(s)...

And if you break something, mini parts are a long ways away.

There are plenty of paved drives in the park which will afford lots of viewing and fun.

I don't advise going off road on any of the bike / 4x4 trails.
You need good clearance as pot holes, shallows and other are common.

This is a wonderful area for a vacation! Like others have said, I don't recommend going off-road with a CM. Dirt 2wd-rated roads are OK but be careful of clearance. I suggest hikes (in Arches NP especially) and mountain biking on the trails around Moab, or rent a jeep if you are in to that.
