There are electronic gages that plug into the OBD2 connector, that will show you many different temperatures and pressures. Scangauge 2 and Aeroforce interceptor are two examples.

There are also smartphone apps that work with a transmitter plugged into the OBD2 connector that will display data on your phone.

I installed analog water and oil temperature gages as well as oil pressure and boost gages in my MINI, 'cause I like the look.

For thermostat problems you would want to watch the water temperature, rather than the oil temperature.

Are you seeing oil temperature broadcast over OBDII? I thought the N14 engine didn't even have an oil temperature sensor because of cost cutting.

I always though you had to tap a hole for a temperature sensor in the oil pan and have a separate gauge installed for oil temp

I got the ScanGuage Beta update described in the followin post. This update reads the oil temperature on my 2011 MC plus many other nice readouts.

Yes, oil temperature is broadcast on the OBD2 with the N14 engine. The oil temperature probe is right at the driver's side of the head, it's where I put the Cravenspeed adapter for my analog gages. I plugged a data logger into my OBD2 port and oil temperature was one of the things it was reading.

Yes. Are they thinner than the minimum thickness that's shown on the rotor hat? If not you're wasting your money.
