LSD Question
So I have an '04 MCS I'd like to change to an LSD. Is the Quaife diff my only real option here?

you could try to find a used LSD out of an 05-06 or one from an SVT Focus because they use the same gearbox.

Before you buy the OBX you might want to see if there are users out there to see how could it is.

Is this a drop in part for sure? I was considering that option but without being fully positive didn't want to jump into it.

both cars use the Getrag 285 transmission. The Focus ST170 uses it as well, but we never got that in the US.

That is something I never put together. I actually owned that very car before I bought my first mini. Awesome info, thanks. I might just look into the SVT diff

I would still like to hear from someone with experience with the OBX as it's a couple bucks cheaper and brand new at that price vs. a used diff. Does anyone know the locking percentage of both? What about how smooth they are when working through a corner?
I know they OBX is a helical type so it might be a bit jerky compared to the open diff or a clutch type unit and I think the factory LSD is the same way.

are the after market diffs really that much better than the OEM one? i mean why pay $1000+ for a diff when you can get a used oem one for 500?

But are the Quaife and OS Giken diff's really that much better or are people just paying for a name and bragging right?

Someone else can probably fill in with more details but from what I understand, you get what you pay for with the OBX.

Seen broken OBX diffs so I don't use them
The OEM diff is a 25% lock
The Quaife is a 40% lock
I really like the
Quaife for a street car, but the stock diff isn't a bad deal for the price.
