thanks!
You can also get a JCW with the 'base' suspension. I bought a set of struts with springs from a JCW, and the labels said 'Cooper S'. My MCS was ordered with the sport suspension, and the shock labels had 'Sport' on them.

Correct, I did not know this. I apologize for the miss post. It's still a sport suspension...so its better than a base model. Thanks guys!

If you compare the actual part numbers (sway bars, front struts, rear shocks) between a Cooper S and a factory JCW you'll find the parts are exactly the same with the exception of the front struts. This applies whether it's a Standard or a Sport suspension option, either of which are available from the factory, and both have black springs.
The unknown is the F/R springs. If you look at your spring coils you'll note they are color coded with 2 or 3 dabs of paint, identifying the spring rate engineered for your particular MINI.
Spring rates are calculated based on the weight of your MINI, influenced primarily by heavier options such as transmission (Std./Auto.), Sunroof (Yes/No), etc.
I've not heard of anyone cracking the spring rate color codes but if you've ever driven a JCW and an MCS back to back you'll note the suspensions are clearly not the same.
The special RED spring "JCW Sport Suspension" is an entirely different (and very expensive) option which I believe is dealer installed.
