I have a feeling that my MINI will be staying snug in the garage for much of the winter, I don't fancy it getting covered in grime and road salt. Maybe a few forays into the snow just to test the handling, but otherwise I'll be using her Honda. How about you all?

I will drive in the winter as long as the roads aren't bad.
We have the tendency to get alot of what they call the "Wintry Mix" where I live.....translation: sheet of ice.
If that is the case I will take the train or find some other way to work.

My '98 Crown Vic is the winter car, equipped with Blizzaks it does very well, I can't bring myself to drive the mini with salt/sand on the road, it's going to be a long winter, I also plan on waiting till the road cleaning crews are done with their road sweeping in the spring. Here in CT, the state/cities use an awful mix of red sand and salt, I had the windscreen on the CV replaced this year due to major pitting from that stuff.

What is this "winter" of which you speak? Is that when the temp only gets up to the mid-50s during the day?

My MINI is my winter toy when It's too cold to ride my Harley. I do have a backup for snow and ice. Have a feeling, however, that my MINI (picking it up 2morrow-yayyyyy) is going to be more fun than my bike!!

If I didn't drive my MINI in the winter, I would have to walk! I almost can't wait to see how it handles, esp. with the traction control...

Why not? As much as I love my car, it's not a Ferrari...of course it will see winter. ...but winter has to START for that to even be a bone of contention. We've been having a wicked Indian Summer this year in the NW. Begining to wonder if it will EVER rain again (yes, leave it to an Oregonian to complain about a lack of rain).

I'm not getting mine until January, and I'm CERTAINLY not going to wait until spring to drive it!

Thank goodness I went with the black roof -- I have to have SOME way to pick my car out of the snowdrifts here in Boston...

I'll be driving mine. Wonder about snow tires and block heater, which are usually needed here in Ottawa. Anyone know if there is a Mini block heater? And would snow tires be needed and if so, what kind?

I live near Chicago, I own one car: my Mini S. It will be driven this winter and will see its fair share or snow, ice and road salt. Fact of life for living in the Land of Lincoln.

Like someone else said, it's not a Ferrari.

(a bit redundant, but...)
Hey, it's a car. What the heck good is it if I can't drive it in the winter? My Blizzaks and steel wheels arrived last week, and in another month or so I'll risk life and limb to jack the car up and install them. Winter's a fact of life up here in New England.

But if you like summer, try where I am sitting at this very moment typing this...St. Thomas, USVI (on business...someone's gotta do it ). Lots of twisty hills and blind curves. Would be MINI heaven. Of course, the boat ride to the nearest dealer in FL would be a bit of a drag. So, I can sympathsize with those who have asked "what's winter"...but when I get home, I'll drive in the snow.

Our MCS will be arriving in November so it will see winter before it sees anythign else. We ordered performance run flats, so we will probably be getting a spare set of rims and Blizzaks for the winter driving (for more info see my post under the wheels and tires forum).

The MINI is my only car, so it will be riding around in the Atlanta winter, such as it is. No road salt to worry about here. . . the one or two times per year that it snows, everybody just stays home.

I plan to drive mine in the winter, BUT I'm hanging on to my International 4x4 pick-up for the really bad Iowa winter days. And of course, the MINI gets garaged.

There's no such thing as "too cold to ride." Snow and ice are a different matter, of course...

Greta will be driven this winter but only on nice days. I am fortunate enough to have an Exployer for those difficult Saratoga, NY snowy winters. On second thought I would like to know how she handles the snow with those 17" Goodyear RS-A's run flats. The forcast for my area is for light snow tonight so maybe she get a short drive tomorrow.

I'll drive mine in winter, but I also have a $500 subaru I bought for the the time being, which I will probably hang on to to use if it snows bad and to use as a city car. I don't need anyone backing into the MINI while trying to parallel park in Manhattan. (I don't trust parking garages either).
