Imperfections in factory paint
Imperfections in factory paint
Hi,
I got a 2013 MCS Coupe in Midnight Black Metallic.
Today, I decided to run around the car with rubbing compound and correct some scuffs dealer put in the paint and the glue etc from taking protective pieces off. Nothing big really.
When I got to the boot, I noticed that around the license plate area, the car had maybe 4 or so little (less than 1mm) raised bumps in the paint. They look like tiny pimples in the paint.
Is that normal or has the rear end been resprayed before the car reached me? I asked for full disclosure from the dealer and there was no damage at the VDC.
I will try and take pictures tomorrow, but it's tiny and it's a black car, so I cannot guarantee.

No, it's all approximately 3 inches from the edge of the trunk. I'm taking the car for PDR on Monday so I will ask a friend of mine to take a look. If it in fact had been painted, all hell is going to break loose at the dealer.

you won't like this but here's my 2 cents:
once you signed the contract and handed over the check making a scene in the dealership is not going to get you anything - I was dumb enuf to do it once and for the rest of the time I dealt with the dealership I saw the looks - here comes THE guy. Sadly you would have been in a much better position if you'd found this on final inspection B4 you signed the paperwork.....
If these are minor imperfections in the paint my advice it to live with them. Most of the time violating the factory paint to fix something like this is just gonna cause you more grief down the road. If the area is sanded and re-cleared odds are that clear is gonna lift by the sixth year. And don't forget that black is the HARDEST color to make imperfections disappear. Beautiful when perfect but a pain to keep that way.
Could you cover them with a badge holder?

is the insert around the lic' plate a plastic piece?
If then, not a paint problem, just a plastic mold issue and I would NOT mess with it.
If the dealer was a PIA why did you buy there .... don't bother with a reply, I know the answer. Some times it takes a very strong back bone to WALK AWAY and dealers count on the fact their's is stronger than your's.

I've got a two small areas on my 2012 JCW. I noticed them the first time I washed it. I was thinking they were caused from clear coat overspray form painting the aero kit but I'm not sure. I was gonna try color sanding but there not that big of a deal since color sanding to much can cause more damage. I call them birth marks.. Lol. I recently had my rear bumper resprayed after somebody bumped into my rear in a parking lot, the other guy paid for the damage. The body shop saw the blemishes in my paint from the factory. They offered to rub them out thinking it was easy but after getting the car back they said it was factory clearcoat and didnt want to do further damage.
