I have an 2008 IS350 for my daughter's use and also an 2010 S automatic with no mods, and I can tell you from experience that they are not even in the same league..... 6cyl Vs 4cyl and comparing the two would be very unfair to either of them.

Minis don't win drag races..if you want that go find a cheap civic and put a turbo B16 in it. No shock the Lexus murdered you on a straight line acceleration. MINIs are about handling and top end...low end grunt needed for drag racing just isn't there..

BTW stop drag racing on city streets..if you hit me, my family, my friends...I'll pursue you to the full extent of civil and criminal reaches of the law. Now go have a happy thanksgiving!!

What? I can't comprehend run-on sentences.

Stop racing on the street. Go to a drag strip.

Lol.

Even our V6 rav4 is faster in a straight line against our mini but that's the last reason we bought either.

The 350z and is350 do not have the same engine at all. Toyota and Nissan don't share motors...

I actually find it slightly surprising that the heavier lexus would be so much quicker, actually. I've yet to have any impatient driver make it around me at a light.

Put the MINI on the track and the Lexus would be spanked/annihilated.

I have an 06 MBZ SLK55 AMG if you would like to get beaten worse...straight or track.....but serious, be safe, it's the holidays and no one wants to see anyone get hurt. Since you love your MINI, treat it nice, give it a de-carbon treatment and buy it a new dipstick or something!

I'm not sure you're understanding what everyone is trying to tell you on this thread....I guess I'll give my opinion *sigh*

As everyone keeps telling you, MINIs weren't designed to be straight line race cars, plain and simple. You asked if an R56 MCS could beat an IS350 in a race. Perhaps if you dropped an ungodly amount of money into your car along with with enough nitrous to blow yourself sky high, you may win.
Congrats....you just beat a Lexus.....yippee (sarcastic voice)

Get the guy who owns that Lexus on a track, and not a straight one either lol. Then we'll see what's what.

If you're that obsessed with drag racing sell your MINI and buy a mustang or challenger.

That's right I have gone to the race track to do 1/4mile when I had my r53 3 times and the true is boring I just whent to try something different this is my second mini and the true is that I don't change this car is so fun and looks so good and the handling of it is tremendous and looking forward to make some mod it has mangnaflow exhaust I want to get reentech tuning, alta fmic and when times passes change the oem turbo bur what I think is with the tuning and the fmic it would be ok to have a little of more fun 

I would expect that if you did enough mods to get more power than you will have serious tractions issues. I have a stock 08 with an accessport, and with normal tires, there is no chance to hook up in first or second gear. I'm sure that a set of sticky tires would make a difference, but again, this is not what a MINI is for.

If you want to look at mods, I would think about the tune from NM as a first step, along with a FMIC, but that is just my opinion. I have read plenty of threads stating that the gains from exhaust and intake are minimal, and gains from FMIC are not optimized without a tune. But you are looking at $1200 or so for 20-30 hp gain. You will notice the gain, but it is probably not enough to keep with the Lexus.

Have fun,
Mike

I had and IS350 and I'm not so sure this would be the case. It is not a bad handling car at all.

I guess you can look at it like this...an MCS Turbo weighs in at around 2600 lbs and tuned can put down 220+hp and 250+ft/tq to the wheels. The IS350 weighs 3600 lbs and stock puts town 250hp and 230ft/tq to the wheels. The tuned MCS gives up 30 hp but is 1000 lbs less with 20 more foot lbs of tq. I know it is a very very loose rule of thumb, but every 100 lbs is equivalent to 10hp. Traction and driver ability will always be huge factors especially with a high hp/tq front wheel drive car.

Even with being very heavy and having only a modest amount of hp, it still looks to put down pretty impressive 1/4 figures...a quick search on their forums found low 13's not that hard to do.

I had to read this thread because I actually wokrd at Lexus before I could get transferred to mini. I can deff see an is350 beating an r56 but if you think it really made you feel like you were driving a prius, keep in mind there are IS F's that they cram v8s in! Personally I rather have my mini over a Lexus any day way more fun to drive! Who cares if it can beat you in a drag you yould Woop its boot on a track!

Wait isn't yours a Justa? In that case, you can't expect it to match the outright power of a V6. Small naturally aspirated motors have little potential. If you feel like it's really down on power, the 'S' or a JCW would be a good option for you. It does have just about enough power to keep up on straight roads, and around the twisties, it's going to be a very close contest.

Also, look at what the Mini offers you in contrast. A sporting and sorted chassis / suspension setup, a quick accurate and sharp steering, positive brakes and not to forget that special feeling of driving one. It's in a class of its own. The Lexus is a good car, but the Mini has much more appeal.

It's not all about going in a straight line. It's about the fun.

The outcome to this thread is simply that we're talking about two completely different cars, neither were built with the same mindset/target group/budget.

We're comparing a luxury sport sedan to a sport commuter. I don't see why someone wouldn't want to have one of each in his/her garage.

For purpose of comparison I have a 07 mcs w accessport stage 1, downpipe/catless exhaust and k&n drop in. I also have an 07 g35 coupe. Both are manual. The mini pulls consistently over both my stock g35 and a friends who has full bolt ons inc plenum and downpipes, exhuast, intake and osiris tune. It has also pulled slightly on a stock g37 6 speed and badly on 2 350z. I know from my time on g35/37 forums, the consensus is thst the is350 is faster in a straight line vs 6spd g37 but loses out a bit in the handling dept. I would say that the mini would have potential to keep up or possibly pull slightly with substantial mods but probably not without an aggressive tune and meth injection. While we never took the car to the track I know a friends stage 3 gti put about 3 cars on us from 40-120 and he ran a 13.7 at 103 so I would say with current mods I am probably inbthe neighborhood of a 14 flat at about 100. I also flat foot shift so I tend to milk a bit more out of the car than some people who shift conservatively

Man, tough crowd. Give the guy a break. It's not like he's Jack the Ripper or something. People with fun cars wring 'em out from stop lights sometimes. It happens every day. That doesn't mean they're swerving all over the road and doing it in a school zone or your 25 MPH street. There are long stretches of industrial parks where two cars might meet late at night with nobody around. There are wide-open stretches of farm land and desert. I wouldn't just assume that because someone has a street race that they're doing so by running red lights with willful, dangerous indiscretion for the safety of others. I assume we all drive safely here unless someone proves otherwise.

That said, I agree with those saying the MINI is no Mustang (or Lexus). Apples and oranges really. I think the MINI is the most fun you can have with a FWD car. If that Lexus was the 306 HP version, what happened is no surprise. Still, your MINI has more character between the headlights alone than that Lexus has in its entire body. You get better mileage. Your car is easier to park. Your car doesn't look like every other car on the road (a 4-door sedan that most people can't tell from a Hyundai). There is NO mistaking a MINI for something else.

Roll the windows down on a nice sunny day and really wring out your engine on some corners. It may not be the fastest thing on the road but it can sure make you feel like it is and it's absolute sport-driving driving pleasure.
