Just did the one ball mod

And not loud enough lol. It is better though.

Anybody just run straight pipe back from the cat or resonator? Trying to think about where to go from here without having to spend too much!

I'm in the same boat....I really don't want to drop the cheddar on a cat-back...but at the same time I want that nice smoothness that the invidia offers...if you come up with a good sounding solution I'd love to hear it.

I think there was just a thread about the Scorpion exhausts, which are pretty darn cheap. Or find a good used exhaust. I paid around $400 for my used Milltek.

my 06 oe muffler is leaking out the side. shopping around a bit.. I feel like if I'm going to put on a new system, might as well get the header too.. who knows.. buying a used exhaust seems like a really bad idea but maybe if it were from an area with no salt?

I like the straight through design of the invidia. Its the only one I know of that uses the straight through resonators. In my experience with invidia previously, they are top notch...and make a deep throaty sound which is why I'm so torn at the moment

Have had my invidia for 4 years now and love it and the sound only got better with addition of new header and deletion of invidia resonator (for the pop and gurgle). Straight pipe from resonator or cat is way too loud IMHO..It sounds really cool if it is not your car but the drone gets old quick. I like a little drone myself but straight pipe was rediculous.

A cheap decent sounding alternative is Ireland Engineering cat back system...decent quality and sound and looks similar to ALTA system.

But can it compete with the deep throatiness of the invidia? Thats my main issue. Most exhausts I hear for the R53 sound like fart canned civics.

I havent heard an IE exhaust in ages so honestly couldnt remember sound enough to describe it. IE parts have always been good quality in my experiences (camber plates). You might contact way over at waymotorworks...he deals with IE and Invidia parts and would give you an honest opinion between the two..and probably other brands if you asked. Sounds like its time to have another thread for an exhaust sound off

Just wondering if a flowmaster muffler would fit in place of the stock muffler and not hang down or anything??

I think chopping the last stock muffler and replacing with a higher flowing flowmaster would sound great.

There are several floater mufflers that would fit I am place of the stock muffler. Don't have the model numbers on me but it needs to be same side in/out and be 13" max length and 6.5" max width. Magnaflow and several other brands make mufflers that would fit as well

High performance exhausts cost a lot for a reason....materials, bend engineering, muffler efficiency research, fitment testing, dyno results. You definitely get what you pay for. I started with the one ball, went to the obx racing system, then went to the invidia after seeing a mini at AMVIV and having remorse. I spent so much money messing about with trying to come up with a cheap exhaust that I almost could of just bought the high performance proven design.

Not to put a damper on your innovation (which is what theses cars are about) but you do get what you pay for. That being said not sure where your located but if you are close to the Reno, NV area I do have an old OBX racing system laying around you can have and chop up . Has two high performance stainless steel mufflers with y section already bent and fitted for a mini cooper.

The difference in gain from a stock system to custom to high dollar exhaust is so minimal anyways. I mean your talking maybe 5hp maybe. If you want more power there are other routes to follow. I did my exhaust just for the sound expecting no power gain. Though I did dyno almost a full hp

Exhaust alone..yes gains are minimal....but when you begin adding other mods with it the gains increase fairly quickly. A good quality exhaust is a very good mod to have in your arsenal when you start adding pulleys, intakes, custom ecu tune, or injectors....In fact in most promos for pulleys it states that hp gains vary depending on modifications such as exhausts and intakes.. Good quality exhausts have research in them that allows us not to just get hp but to increase low end torque which is very visible on a dyno. Go from a mini with stock set up and then hop into a mini ith 200hp and you will realize how all the small gains add up.

True I suppose. Would be interesting to see someone with a full setup (pulley, injector, cai, tune) with stock exhaust and with aftermarket do a dyno comparison.

There (used to be at least) members on here with 200+whp with the one ball mod.

Yea no way I'm spending that much money on a cat back. I could do lots of other more useful things for that amount of money. That's springs, shocks, and a rsb.

Damn. I actually wanted to see a real world dyno comparison tbh. Personally, I'm going to wait until I get all my mods done before I hit a dyno. And that will be for a tune, undoubtedly. I'll give a seat of the pants comparison when I get my invidia system but I'm not really expecting a whole lot. I'd just really like to be able to hear the exhaust. The pulley whine is great...but I hate the tinny sound the OEM exhaust gives.

Personally I love the sound of doing the one ball. It's just a more pronounced stock sound. Though I will be going with a different muffler that will be slightly louder. Don't want ricer Honda but want to hear it more!

mastertrixter good job on an over 200 number It took me a while and many tunes to get there. Everyone has their taste and to each their own...I really like the looks of my Invidia..versus the one ball ( my version of the one ball looked kind of mickey moused) . Perfmormance or no performance gain I love when I can see those polished gradual bends just ever so slightly peek at me from under the rear. Mix that with 3" polished titanium tips with that blue!!! S-T-Y-L-E Its like MINI ****
