the thule atlantis 1600 and the rhino-rack rmfz65 are both nice boxes which you can find pictures of here with a little digging. i'm also in the market for a roof box and i think i'm going with the rhino-rack, it's a bit sleeker looking to me.

*Edit* tracked down photos..

this looks like a thule boxter on Craigeo's mini..

Dean Watson's Rhino-Rack

...another..

...another..

the atlantis 1600 on troukhad's mini.

..another..

...another..

and this is a yakima skybox 16s on OneTraveler's mini...

.. another..

one more edit...
and the list wouldn't be complete without duell's carbon fiber thule..

... one can dream.

I need a hard cargo box to schlep a bunch of stuff down to New Orleans from NJ and back. Lot's of 80mph highway driving so safety and fuel efficiency are an issue. I don't want to worry about the thing flying off my roof on the highway.

I also have the occasional need to carry a single pair of skis locally - just a few miles on backroads.

And more often we need to carry 2 road bikes a little way, also locally.

Next year, if we go back to New Orleans, we may even want to put both bikes and the box on the roof. But that's not definite so it is not a priority - but it would be nice.

And I don't want to spend thousands. Nor do I know where to begin. I'm short and not mechanically inclined so it has to be a system on the simple side. Looks are secondary. Which rails? Which are easy to mount? Which accessories? Will it all fit on my Countryman?

Any and all advice and suggestions highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That DuelL countryman makes me sick every time i see it. I WANT IT SO BAD. BUT ITS SOOO EXPENSIVE. I'll be 4 wheel drifting it in the snow covered turns tonight in my dreams, with snow bunnies admiring me.

I have the same box, it's a thule dynamic 800, it comes in black and titan, titan is sparkling grey. It's a very quiet box.

... interesting... apparently it's an european market box and not available in the us.
.. it's a sweet looking box too.

does it fit onto the oem mini bars ?

just spoke with a rep on this, it's not available in the us but, the 2013 line is changing

the hyper is replacing the boxter
sonic is replacing the atlantis
force is replacing the ascent
pulse is replacing the time traveler

googling the boxes they appear to be slimmed down and sleeker

Also, check your local BMW dealer. The boxes look the same.

It's a very nice box and super quiet, no more wind noise than the bars themselves make. They fit the OEM bars.

I'm considering going with a Thule Atlantis 1600. Can anyone tell me if they've had any issues with clearance with a stubby antenna? I can't quite tell based on the photos i've seen posted on the boards. thx

Here is what I went with: Rhino Rack RMFZ65 purchased from AutoAnything on MINI cross bars purchased from Plano MINI. My gallery has some pictures.
