brake squeal help.

a long while back i installed EBC Green Stuff pads and the brake stiffening kit. and sense then at low speeds(sometimes) the rear breaks will squeak. all the way up to about 30mph. it would be something like this; a slow 1 mph crawl sqeeeaaak........... sqeeaaakk...........sqeeaaakk....( as i go faster)..... squeak...squeak....squeak....squeak...squeak..sque ak..squeak..squeak..squeak.squeak.squeak.squeak.sq ueak.squeak.squeak.squeak then nothing at 30mph.

and the squeak frequency goes in reverse when slowing down from 30, if im not on the breaks. light breaking will cause a squeak all the way till i stop. medium breaking it will have an initial squeak then go away till i come to my complete stop and begin to release, then the squeal comes back till i stop.

at first i though i just needed to wait till the brakes bedded, so i went and bedded them. i thought it fixed it then it came back and went to bed them again still nothing. it is now over 1500 miles seance i had the pads on and the rear breaks still squeal. oh and the rotors where new, well new when i got the car. it got about 1000 miles of use with some really crappy pads. that would squeal all the time.

oh and squeaking is random it dosent happen all the time. and i tried to figure out if it would happen when the brakes are cold and when they are hot. but the low speed squeak and breaking squeak is random it only does it sometimes.

any idea what the heck is going on its really annoying.

[/very long story]

so far, no squeeking on my cms all4, but my p/u truck disc brakes will squeek bad if
A) the pins are dry and need to be lubed or
B) there is crud/dirt under the brake pads

all i can suggest is to clean and lube and try again

I had EBC greens on my '03 MCS and I swear, never again. Was never able to stop the squeaks.

My '05 has the same problem. The Porsche dealer I bought it from told me they installed new brakes. Turns out just new pads on old rotors - that's not new brakes. Anyway, brakes noisy and I'll have to do a proper brake job soon.

Your problem may be new pads on used rotors - yes, even 1,000 used, especially with the EBC's. I never understood why those pads are so popular. Guys install them on their motorcycles, too, and suffer similar problems.

Also never was able to stop the squeaks with my EBC pads...the squeaking was only made worse when I upgraded to powerslot rotors during last brake job. Now i have a whole new variety of noises..keep getting told by manufacturers its normal...

They do make products for sale that treat the pads and rotors to eliminate squeak without effecting braking power..not sure if they work but there are like 10 different varieties of squeal stop solutions at most auto parts stores
