Voice command for bluetooth calls?

Just got an All4 a few weeks ago, and it's going great, but I can't figure out how to do a call via voice command. I've tried Dial Name or Call but all I get is the car telling me to repeat myself. Do names have to be stored in the car address book for Bluetooth voice commands, or can they just be on my phone? Thanks!

Thanks all. Have tried a number of commands. Dial Number works but then I have to remember the number. Dial Name always seems to bring up Redial. Help is just general help. I've found that Contacts and then saying the Name seem to work. About 50% of the time! Will keep playing around. At least the driving is a blast!

Ok. I've had the same problem and, after being very frustrated about it, have been able to make it work consistently.

Press the voice activation button. Say "Phonebook." She'll respond: "Please say a name." You'll say a name, and she'll respond "Do you want to call [name]?" If you say "Yes," she'll dial the number.

It's important to have had the system running for a brief time. Connected has to process your entire address book, I think, before it's ready to dial a number for you. Depending on the size of your address book, it may take a minute. If it's not processed your phone's address book, she'll respond "Processing phonebook for voice commands" after you say "Phonebook."

I hope that's close. I'm not in the car right now.

i hate that its a 3 step process to call someone via voice command on my countryman. My Audi s5 all i have to do is say "call (name)" and it just dials it unless there are two numbers stored for that name then it asks home or mobile.

With Mini you pretty much have to say three things
1. phone book
2. name
3. yes

So i always end up using siri to do the dialing for me.

Yeah looks like the 3-step process works pretty consistently starting with Phonebook or Contacts. I guess the command Dial Name in the owners manual was marketing, not reality. Thanks all!

After moving the mic over from the passenger side to the driver side, the voice commands work great and I use this sequence:
1. "Dial name"
2. "name"
3. "yes"

Or I say, "dial number", then say the full number.

This works for me, especially after moving the microphone over. I have to speak much louder at highway speeds and not look away for the mic to pick up what I'm saying.

I tried moving the mic but the wire appears to be too short to reach the drivers side, any thoughts

Appearances can be deceiving , once I disconnected the connector into the mic and re routed the wire there's just enough to reconnect and reposition the mic, pretty simple, works and I don't feel like I need to yell
